I've seen several books in the Insider's Guide series and this is by far the best! Katie VanLuchene knows Kansas City inside and out and it shows. She brings a breezy style to what could have been just another book of lists and makes it a fun read as well as an essential tool for getting the most out of Kansas City. I travel west on I-70 from Indiana to Colorado several times a year and thought of Kansas City as an unavoidable complication to a generally tedious drive. Those days are over, now that I have this book in my luggage.
Katie, who is a regular contributor to Kansas City Magazine and a prolific travel writer, gives us the lowdown on what Kansas City barbecue is all about, where to find the really great shopping, a sparkling array of nightlife possibilities, lodging, history, museums, you name it. Besides being a huge help to visitors, the Insider's Guide to Kansas City is sure to be an eye-opener to folks who live there and take their hometown for granted. They ought to hand these out at the city limits to everyone coming into town.

Katie has sparked the "adventurous" in me and now I am ready to hit the road. This is a book meant for every local's library not to mention all visitors to the city. Most of us are unaware of the myrid options that Kansas City offers. This guide gives us the opportunity to explore and enjoy everything that is available. We are also prepared when, when they come, to enlighten visitors as to everything that Kansas City is about.
Thank you Katie for making all of us who have the book "insiders." The book is a must.

I moved to New York City over 7 years ago - I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas.

Now when I go back home, I don't know the best places to go - plus my tastes have changed. This guide book is so classy, chic, and full of new adventures for me as a former Kansas City girl! And it's tough to compete with NYC.
