Living Like a Local in Italy,
By
This review is from: The Insider's Guide to Living Like a Local in Italy (Paperback)
This handy little book gave us many useful tips while traveling in Italy from Sorrento in the South to Venice in the North. Suzanne's book helped us find the necessities and gave us wonderful hints such as
where to find a good swimming beach, hiking paths, what bus to take, as well as where to eat and stay! Don't leave home without it!! Buon Viaggio!

Little book, Lots of information,

I actually have two of these books, found them invaluable and LOANED them out to friends numerous times. If you are a first time or inexperience Italian travelor, don't leave home without them. They cover a lot of common sense items, that you won't find in a regular tourist guide.

The best Thing about this book is it's cover. A waste of money...even at only 3.99. I could supply better info and I've never even been to Italy!

In short, this is a very basic guide to the most superficial cultural sides of Italy one could encounter. A better title would be 'The American guide to visiting Italy like an inexeperienced tourist'.
While I appreaciate the effort, I haven't reada thing any beginning travelerwouldn't know of. Hardly material for insiders. Let alone a local. This could better be an appendix for a regular travel guide.

The title sounded great. The other reviews sounded fabulous. I guess I should have looked more closely, because the whole book (110 large print pages) seems like a handout given to customers of the author's company, [...]. The "book" is comprised of the most basic advice for a person who has never traveled to Europe, yet is apparently renting a villa in order to "live like a local." My mistake. I can't help feeling a little ripped off.

I used an early version of this for my trip to Italy in 2004 and found that it was very useful. We tend to travel 'off the beaten path' and thus this was right on target. Suzannes recomentations were helpful as we went from Rome to Perugio for a week and finally to Venice for a week.

I'm going to Tuscany next Oct. with a group of friends to celebrate our 60th birthdays. We're renting a villa from rentvillas.com, and this book is written by the company founder. She answers all the questions you need to prepare and enjoy the trip. Highly recommend.
