3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, awkward organization, somewhat out-of-date, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Insiders' Guide to North Carolina's Mountains, 9th: Including Asheville, Biltmore Estate, Cherokee, and the Blue Ridge Parkway (Insiders' Guide Series) (Paperback)
This is the largest guidebook to the region and has the most information. However, it is organized by type (lodging, shopping, etc.) and by county within each type. This entails much flipping back and forth--most visitors won't have a clue about counties! Once you know where you are going, then you have to search in every chapter for the sights, etc. There are three regional maps in the front of the book that display the counties but very few cities and attractions. (I find the Moon guidebook to be easier to use because it's organized by geographic area first, but it covers the whole state and has less information.) When I tried to research the web for some of the lodgings and festivals, I found many dates and even names had changed for the festivals and some lodgings and restaurants could not be found or had gone out of business.
