This review is from: InsidersChoice to MCP/MCSE Exam 70-270 Windows Server 2003 Certification: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional Exam 70-270. (With Download Exam) (Volume 2) (Paperback)
this book is bad on many points. what struck me first was the extremely poor quality of the product. the picture quality of the graphics is horrible. i've been involved with high-speed laser and led printers for many years and have taken many a service call for print quality superior to this book. the binding is also poor. when i tried to brush some crumbs off a page, it came right out of the book.
editing quality was also of very low grade. paragraphs were repeated, pages were missing and also repeated. some typos are to be expected, and this has its share. it's really bothersome, though, when the typo is such that you have to figure out what is really being said. the explanations are very cursory. i am having to use my other mcse books to get the concepts correct (eg., remote assistance and remote desktop are confused. the explanation of partition labeling is wrong, although the misconceptions don't matter unless you are really doing some fancy stuff. but still, they should get it right). don't use this book as your only source. i would recommend buying another book instead of this, but if you already have this, get something to supplement it.

Get something else for 70-270,

Not only is this one of the worst edited books I've seen with repeated paragraphs and occasional misspellings, the BeachFront Quizzer that comes with it was even worse! First, the web address given in the book has a typo so you have to call or email to get the correct one, then the drag and drop functionality in the quizzer doesn't work. My favorite part of the quizzer questions were the use of the word "complaint" every time they meant "compliant". Add this to questions that sound like they were translated into English by someone who doesn't speak it well. Finally, the actual test questions given bore little resemblence to the actual test. After consistently scoring high (and passing) on the sample tests provided, imagine my surprise when only one of the questions was even remotely like the actual test! I should also point out that this is for the Second Edition that was just published in Dec 2004, so I expected the most current information and was severly disappointed.
