5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Debut
I am a long time fan of Warren Zevon. I worried that his son may end up sounding like his father (a fate he would have shared with Julian Lennon, who is a fine singer/songwriter, but gets no credit for it because he sounds so eerily like his father). However, JZ's album is full of great pop songs, more Beatleseque than anything. Vocally he sounds very little like Warren...

I didn't listen to the whole album, just the snippets you can get on Amazon. Probably not fair for me to write this...I'm a huge WZ fan. I'm sure in my mind I'm comparing him, but I wanted to hear how Jordan sounds. My impression, based on what I heard here, is that most of these songs feel like they were written 15-20 years ago.

I will give him credit: he...

However, JZ's album is full of great pop songs, more Beatleseque than anything. Vocally he sounds very little like Warren. He does share his father's way with a snappy lyric. One reviewer said he sounded old fashioned. Old fashioned quality is more like it. I really can't get this album out of my CD player. It is fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLANT DEBUT, July 30, 2008

I picked this CD up while in NYC when it debuted and didnt have a CD player with, I couldnt wait to get back home to listen to it and was not dissappointed. What can I say Warren Zevon has left a wonderful legacy behind. Jordan Zevon follows in the talents of his father. This album is unlike anything you have ever heard, much like his father's album. It is unfortunate that the record company does not promote this album more as it outdoes any music I have currently heard. But then again that is the same fate as his father suffered. That never stopped him coming back with more and I hope the same with Jordan Zevon. When is his tour?!?!?!?!

5.0 out of 5 stars The highly anticipated debut of Jordan Zevon!, June 13, 2008

As a huge fan of the late, great Warren Zevon, the last thing I wanted was for his son to be a clone. Thankfully Jordan's his own man and his first full-length CD is proof of that. Inspired more by English bands of the 80's than anything else, Zevon's songwriting is tight and his songs are melodic pop romps. He does, however, display a bit of the dark humor his dad was famous for...Jordan's just not as sardonic.

Suffice to say, if you like the music of XTC, Squeeze, the Beatles...maybe Electric Light Orchestra, you'll like Jordan Zevon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Debut, June 18, 2008

Power-pop fans should love this exceptional debut CD from Jordan Zevon. It's loaded with great melodies and clever wordplay. If you saw him on Letterman a couple of months back, you know that he delivers a great live performance, too. If you want to get in on the ground floor of a great career, order "Insides Out" -- you'll be able to impress your friends with your great discovery!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really grows on you, September 29, 2009

A friend of mine recently gave me this release from the son of legendary rocker Warren Zevon. He knew I was a fan of Warren, so he thought I'd like the kid. He was right.

I have to admit that the first time I listened to "Insides Out", I was not terribly impressed. The album (hey I'm an old guy---I still call them "albums") opens weakly as far as I'm concerned, with a pop rocker titled "The Joke's On Me". Quite frankly, the opener may very well be my least favorite track---along with "Camila Rhodes". Too "poppy". And I hate "poppy". But then I kept listening and listening. And I started to like it.

But for me, the real turning point for this release comes about halfway through, when I hit the title track, at track #6. From there to the end, this is a FANTASTIC release! Things slow down a bit, and we begin to hear Dad's influence more and more. The real gem is "Studebaker", the 8th track. Of course I'm prejudiced here. This is the only song on the album written by Warren Zevon, and Jordan does a mesmerizing rendition, sounding just like his dear old Dad. Warren would be proud. Jordan even blesses us with instrumentation from some of Warren's old bandmates---the great David Lindley on lap steel and Waddy Wachtel on guitar. We even get Dylan's boy, Jakob, on backing vocals. Whew! Talk about some good fatherly influence! Best track on the album.

The more I listen to this release, the more I like it. Jordan has done a great job of establishing his own identity, without sounding like a clone of his father. But the influence is definitely there. And having Warren Zevon as an influence is a real blessing.

Jordan, keep up the good work. I won't wait for your next release to be given to me as a gift.

As far as i am concerned no singer/songwriter will ever match Warren. His son has talent all his own and has some of his dad's writing style yet sings better and writes what he feels.

Album well worth a listen or purchase he will be around for a good while and that is a good feeling.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine debut, April 19, 2008

The first time I ever heard Jordan Zevon was covering his father's little-known gem "studebaker" on the Enjoy Every Sandwhich tribute album and I was greatly impressed. I wanted to hear more, when Jordan released his 5 song EP a few years back, I bought it and was further convinced that this was a singer/songwriter with tremendous promise. Now his debut album has finally been released and I must say that my orginial impressions were not off. Aside from the mildly annoying "Camila Rhodes", every song is a winner. The only reason I'm rating it 4 rather than 5 stars is due to the fact that over half the material has been released before. More new stuff would have been appreciated. Still, I am pleased overall and eagerly await future albums.

I will give him credit: he didn't go the Julian Lennon route. He is not a clone of his father (Studebaker sounds like WZ, but that's because he wrote it). He does have his own sound; its just not very compelling music.

Not sure that he would have a record but for his last name.
