Another great Sylvia Browne book, but...,

This review is from: Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World (Hardcover)
As I have stated before, I am a fan of Sylvia Browne. Consider her God given gift to be real and she works for the good of others. In her time with Montel Williams, she stated that this book would be about how her help with police, and members in Montel's audience, etc helped solve murders, etc. Thought that would make a great premise for a book. I purchased this book, and for the most part, she deals with things that she has stated many times in her books, or in appearances. Am sure it is a good thing, as many may have not read Ms. Browne's other work, so statements about spirits, ghosts, the Other Side etc. would help them and give us a 'refresher course' - Then after different topics, she gives feedback from those she gave readings to stating her words were correct.
The case files that I was waiting for - her help solving cases with the police, on Montel's show, the FBI, made up about the last 20 pages of the book. I was a little disappointed. I guess you can call the feedback she's gotten from her clients as 'case files', but I interpreted this book as more public files that can be proven - This is not to say this book is not great, and is a good review or primer, I just expected more.

Shockingly Dissapointed.,
By Jaynie Rou "Jaynie" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World (Hardcover)
Let me start this by saying I love Sylvia Browne.
I mean, I love Sylvia Browne.. I give what she has to say a lot of thought, respect, and in the end, a lot of credit. Most, if not all, of what she has to say about spirituality and it's many facets ring so true for me. Could not love this woman more. Not only that, but I have read many of her books - all, actually, up until the last... five or so. (For those of you who are new fans - she has, I believe, nearing 30 published books). That being said, this book was incredibly dissapointing. I heard a description of the book on Montel Williams, and read the description of the book on this site. I thought, Case files - finally! She will go through some of her personal clients, some of her criminal cases, some of the audience members from her many public appearances. She'll give us the whole story of how she helped them, beginning, middle, and most importantly and least seen - the result. We'll get the full scope of the beginning, middle and end of each story. I was so very excited to hear that she had finally put something like this together - I even got priority shipping! lol I excitedly opened up my Amazon package, retrieved the book, and curled under the blanket with the intention of reading it from cover to cover. Lo and behold, it is not what I thought, or what it was advertised, it would be. From cover to cover, this is a book of love letters from clients. "Sylvia you saved my life!" "Sylvia you found this for me!" "Sylvia you cured my son with your advice!" So in one way, yes - it is a collection of short anecdotes from clients. However, mostly it is just endless gushing and fails to give any specific details about cases. "You told me where to find my pendant - then I did!" etc., etc. Here I was expecting detailed accounts of cases, unsolved mysteries, murders she helped solve, missing persons that she helped find, details of enlightening group sessions; what had been said to a client and when, and what specifically happened afterwards.. Instead, it is unspecific testimonial after testimonial. Being that I am such a fan of Sylvia's, I shudder to say this, but the collection almost makes her seem.... ::shudder::.... Arrogant. Like a braggart. Other than the introduction and a few (and I mean a few) short (a few sentences) general responses to letters, she doesn't appear to have written a single word. She simply found and published a collection of love letters sent to her from admiring clients ( who apparently, individually all failed to give satisfying details/specifics). And since there are no specific details in sight, there is no proof that an Author could not have sat down and wrote each letter themselves. I hate that this is my opinion, but I really had no choice. Darnit, Sylvia! I felt jipped, suckered, and shockingly dissapointed. Now that I've said all that, I still highly suggest reading her books, taking her teachings to heart. But this book? All it is is PR.

Case Files fron the Psychic World,
This review is from: Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World (Hardcover)
I've probably read every book that Sylvia Browne has written and have enjoyed every one of them including her latest. As I look forward to each new publication, I always hope that not too many things will be rehashed, keeping in mind that new fans are always joining Ms. Browne's huge following and that they are unfamiliar with her previous books. But in her latest endeavor, this was not the case, only briefly touching on previous topics. I found this book to be not only informative but intriguing, comforting and at time humorous. Another winner as far as I'm concerned.

Repeat, Reapeat,

I am rating this book only a two for the following reason, seems each time I pick up a Sylvia Browne book and start to read I feel like I am reading all the same information as I read in the previous books. So far the first hunk of this book is repeating information from previous books and why would I want to pay to read stuff I already read in three or four of her other books? I quickly learned only pick up her books from our library so I won't be paying for something I will only be disappointed in later. I hope this book get's better towards the end.

the best,
This review is from: Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World (Hardcover)
I love this book, i could not put it down. People should stop talking about Sylvia in a bad way because she has done so much to make the world a better place. Please read this book becaus eit is great and you will not be disopointed. I agree with what the last person said about us paying attintion to this life, but we should look foward to the other side because we won't be in this life forever. I had so much fun reading about all the cases Sylvia has helped solve, if you don't get this book you are really missing out. Oh and to the person who made the quote about James Randi, i think you have been mislead, he has made a life of trying to prove many psychics fake, only because he dosen't believe in a God center(and thats no rumor he stated that himself on the Lary King Live Show)

Sylvia defends herself to her critics!,
This review is from: Insight: Case Files From The Psychic World (Mass Market Paperback)
First of all, I have been a fan of Sylvia Browne since watching her on the Montel Williams Show. In this book, she is trying to defend herself by showing that she is not only effective but very dedicated to her profession of helping people. This book is about people who have been her clients in the past. There are detailed accounts but the identities of the writers have been named by their first name only. I feel sorry for the people who are skeptics and non-believers out there. Most of them have no clue what it is to be paranormal and Sylvia Browne does a service when she tries to explain how she helps people like Jon Edward (not the guy who ran for President), James Van Praagh, and Char Margolis as examples. This book is typically Sylvia's in writing style and her defiance. She is not this cold blooded money driven hag as some have referred to her. She is a mother, a former wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter, and sister. She has worked hard in explaining what the paranormal world is about and sometimes it's right in your face and you don't know it. If you're not a Sylvia Browne fan, don't bother reading any of her books unless you have an open mind and heart.

This review is from: Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World (Audio CD)
I tend to like her audioseminars better than her audiobooks read by someone other than Sylvia. It was hard to sit through this one. If you listen to anything by Sylvia, I'd recommend "Angels and Spirit Guides". It contains her best messages and her best sense of humor.

This book is great for Sylvia Browne followers and the nonbelievers alike. She maintains her witty humor and charm for those who are familiar with her works; and for those who are not, she provides validation for some of her psychic cases. Since she has been a working psychic for almost 50 years, it would be difficult to provide validation for all of her cases in one small book. It's an excellent book and very hard to put down, I definitely recommend it!
