Not the book if you want to go off the beaten path....,

Purchased this guide because it seemed like a well rounded guide for Portugal. We took some of the recommendations from the book, for example, Casa de Levada in northern Portugal, which was absolutely great, but only a small mention in the book. When we went to the Algarve we were sadly dissapointed with the information about the cities...The descriptions were very accurate (i.e. concrete jungle, refering to one of the cities). However there was no information on the smaller, less touristy cities with beautiful rocky beaches. We wound up driving around for hours to random cities/towns, until we found what we were looking for. Eventually we decided to stay in Carvoeiro, which was a quaint little town full of ex-pats, great food, and about 15 wonderfully small and private (well, that's at least how we felt) beaches, but again, just barely mentioned in the book. If you are looking to do the "tourist trap" vacation, this will be a good book, otherwise, I would look elsewhere or even better, get out and go without a book....
