This is a good basic book on travels to Viet Nam. Its very informative though several years outdated. As I travel to South East Asia frequently the information is pretty accurate and the maps are certainly helpful. I suggest you search the internet for hotels under US $40.00 dollars a day with breakfast included.

This is a good companion guide to something like Lonely Planet or the latest internet information. It has more extensive writing about the history and geography of the country, and less hotel and restaurant listings. It also has a lot of great pictures to get you excited. I would not rely on it as an only source of information, but as a supplement. I like to know more about the places I go than just the best bars and the coolest shops. This is a book I didn't finish before my trip, but instead took with me to read and absorb the background of areas as I was travelling through them.

Good basic, mainstream travel info.
Lots of great pictures - which I find preferable to travel guides with no pictures. I like to see the places I'm reading about.

I just unwrapped my Insight Giuide Vietnam from Amazon. It has some of the most beautiful photographs I have ever seen. The travel text is simply icing on the cake. Anyone involved in a trip to Vietnam will want this book on their shelf. This book will excite your imagination, and guarantee that you will have beautiful memories of your trip even if you lose your camera.
