This is my first tactical light. I tried a few out before deciding on the M3 from Insight. Here are some of my observations:

My first criteria was purely a mechanical one, I had to be able to operate the light with either hand - as you don't know which hand with be available. This was a big concern as I was unable to do so on almost all the other tac lights I tested (even the $250 ones).

The M3 works for both left and right hand as the switch pivots on an axis. It has 2 modes "constant on", where the switch simply locks into the "ON" position, and a "flash" mode (my term), where engaging the switch turns the light "ON", but as soon as you release the switch it turns "OFF". Either modes can be engaged on either side by flipping the switch up or down.

The "flash mode" can be very effective to temporarily blind/disorient any one in the path of the light.

Secondly, I also wanted something "bright" and effective up to 25 feet. The M3 delivers. The beam can be narrowed or widened by using the focus ring, like on most lights.

The light output is approximately 90 lumens, and it gets hot at a few inches. The actual casing, however stays cool. (side note: the heat factor could be an advantage in CQC/HTH situations if it's been on for a while.)

It is light (3.3 oz.), and should not affect your accuracy. However, I found out during my first shots at the range that I was showing signs of anticipating, and thus pulling low by a few inches at 9 yards. It really just psychological, and easily remedied by going through a few more rounds.

Once locked into place you don't have to worry about it moving. I strongly recommend mounting and dismounting the unit with your weapon unloaded.

This is a basic light for use on a firearm. Provides about 60 lumens of light and will work well with Glock handguns. Will also fit many others, but seems to fit the Glocks the best. Has taken over 2000 rounds on a Glock 17 and the only issue I have is that it gets dirty and you may want other light laser combination. I have also used this mounted on rifles and anything with a standard Weaver rail. I also have the version with integraded LED and lasers, but this one is the one that always gets installed it seems. It is a bit smaller, lighter and looks better than the metal style. Also due to it being polymer, it doesn't conduct heat, has less problems with venting batteries, and matches polymer framed guns. Takes two DL123 lithium batteries and these tend to last several hours. Works well in the real world and gives you the peace of mind of being able to temporarily blind the enemy or ID potential threats. Recommended.

This light came as described and will suit my needs perfectly. The light is bright and the system seems solid. Not much to it, just an all around good product.

I bought two of these, one for a glock 23 and one for a ruger sr9. They both fit perfectly and look awesome. The price is good compared to other lights and this one is very bright.

It's an M3 - top of the heap. Not the brightest, but reliable and enough light to clear a room. Not a spotlight.
