Book Description

January 1, 2009 0398078467 978-0398078461 2
This updated and expanded second edition continues the theme of the first edition: emphasizing the need to help adoptive parents understand some potentially challenging factors so they can deal with them positively and also comprehend the thinking process of their child. This book provides realistic and factual insight into the world of adoption. It deals with pitfalls that may not be obvious to the unenlightened adoptive parent. Adoptive parents reading this book can gain a different insight into their child s reasoning, and this information can be used to avert some potential problems they might otherwise face. Topics include issues that adoptive families should be told about and are based primarily upon real life experiences relating equally to both sexes. In particular, it will inform those who haven t experienced adoption personally about the many obstacles the adopted child may be facing. Then the parents and others in the family can begin to understand the child s behavior. With under-standing comes a new attitude and the impetus to change the whole atmosphere from negative to positive. The child and his parents will still have issues to deal with, but, with the source uncovered, issues can be faced openly. This book will be an invaluable resource to adoptive parents, social workers, counselors, and teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight Into Adoption, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Insight into Adoption: Uncovering and Understanding the Heart of Adoption (Paperback)
Insight into adoption is a great guide for adopted children, adoptive parents, biological parents and anyone who is interested in adoption. The book covers everything from internal struggles to adoption myths and false expectations. Barbara Blomquist is honest, conversational and inviting throughout every chapter. I, personally, have never dealt with adoption-related issues, but a couple friends of mine have and I believe this book would be extremely beneficial to them. Insight Into Adoption gets straight to the point and can help anyone to understand the whys behind adoption-related issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top three, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Insight into Adoption: Uncovering and Understanding the Heart of Adoption (Paperback)
If I had a choice of only three books to read about adoption, Insight Into Adoption would be one of them.

The author is a parent of both biological and adopted children; and she understands the difference between the two - in their thinking, emotions and how they react to certain situations. She succinctly describes the tell-tale behaviors of adopted children and suggests positive ways to handle them.

This book is an easy read with short chapters that get straight to the point. I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Insight into Adoption: Uncovering and Understanding the Heart of Adoption (Paperback)
This book should be read by all who are touched by adoption: adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents, as well as anyone interested in adoption. I am an adoptee and saw myself throughout the book. It is right on! The book explains what an adoptee goes through and how they feel about their unique world, very helpful to adoptive parents to let them know how their child thinks. This 2nd edition has an additional section based on interviews with all three sides of the triad. It discusses loss and gain issues in adoption - and we all have them! This is a valuable addition to the 1st edition. The book gives a thoughtful and wonderful perspective into the adoption world. Great book!
