Charles "Chuck" Swindoll has indeed done an amazing job on Insights On Romans.
Listening to Swindoll on the radio is good. Reading his books is good. I never dreamed, however, that his commentary would be so good.
Swindoll combines an amazing amount of background information: society, geography, religious beliefs, politics, etc. He then shows how these things are relevant to the text.
Not only does he do this, but Swindoll takes the text and faithfully expounds upon it.
Then there are charts, maps, illustrations, etc. to help the reader.
Scholar, layman, and pastor will find this a good reference.
I honestly was very pleased with this book and look forward to using it more in the future.
Zondervan has done a great service to the people of Christ by publishing this work by Swindoll.

This book, another Swindoll, is almost more than you can retain in one reading...in fact, I'm into my second read.

I'm using this book to supplement a Bible class and it is becoming more and more the text for the class.

There is so much info in this book I'm surprised it isn't bigger!
The detail, the accuracy, the organization is beyond compare. I am blabbering all over here.... but Swindoll out-did himself with "Insights".

Buy it, You'll never need another book on Romans and Paul!

Unlike many commentaries, it writes about what the verses actually say rather than Cavinist-Arminian fantasies of what they would like the verses to say. I have seen too many commentaries try to force or rewrite verses to mean the oppocite of what St. Paul really wrote.

This is an excellent resource that is different than other commentaries.

This is a summarized, easy to read take on Romans, with an emphasis on practical application. I find it easy to read, and very insightful. Its perfect for someone who is wanting to understand Romans better, without getting to detailed.

A fantastic book for Bible study. Wonderful insight into the scriptures. This book is being weekly used in our Adult Sunday School class for added understanding to the verses in Romans. A passage is read almost every week to end the class session. A very good tool for any Bible teacher or serious student of the scriptures. This should be in every Christian church library for all to have access.

Swindoll truly provides a lot of background information on the time that Paul was writing Romans, as well as clearly and succinctly explaining what it was that Paul is saying.

Swindoll notes the importance of reading various works throughout his time in training for ministry and in ministry itself. These sorts of books were able to sustain him, especially because they continued to press into God's Word itself. Reading the insights of people who love God's Word and who love to teach God's Word is a neglected aspect of the average Christian's discipleship. At least one reason for this is that a lot of the volumes that contain these insights are inaccessible, either due to price or complicated terminology and footnotes.

This volume, on the other hand, is easy to navigate, helpful as a resource (with maps and charts), and truly insightful as it proceeds through the text of Romans. It's this kind of tool that can be picked up, read, and applied by the average Christian. And quite possibly, it might whet the appetite of that person to delve even farther into other thoughtful volumes on God's Word. I encourage you to read Romans, and after you've digested parts of it read Swindoll's insights.

Have you ever had questions as you read the Bible, such as "what did that parable mean" or maybe "if Peter was the first Pope, why did James make the ruling on circumcision for the gentiles even though Peter had already spoken?" In his amazingly down to earth style, Chuck Swindoll gracefully enlightens us on things that were once considered only for the theological deep thinker. Let me reiterate, this is not a dry, hard to read exposition on Scripture which requires a vast knowledge of the ancient languages. It's as easy as listening to your favorite preacher (maybe Swindoll himself?) on Sunday morning who somehow knows when to add a little humor into the mix of the heavy stuff.

If you are a serious follower of Christ you will not be disappointed by this or any of the books in this series. They're easy to read, enlightening, and of course, good for the soul!

Chuck Swindoll is one of today's best Bible Teachers, his insights to Romans, helps you understand the letter Paul wrote to the Romans with a plain and simple study.

I bought this book for two reasons. Chuck Swindoll's current radio series on Romans and an ongoing study our men's group is doing on the same Biblical Book.

Insightful and very readable. I found it to be an most helpful resource and look forward to Chuck doing more of these in the future
