3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, May 3, 2007
This review is from: Insignia 500W 5.1-Ch Home Theater System with Progressive-Scan DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Electronics)
This system is more of a stereo than a home theater system. The only good thing about it is the subwoofer. The thin speakers produce less than acurate sound and rattle in hi-treble situations like piano or rap songs. Insignia is notorious for poor quality products at a low price, dont expect miracles, expect what is normal for $100.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SOUND!! - WORTH THE BUGS FOR THE PRICE, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Insignia 500W 5.1-Ch Home Theater System with Progressive-Scan DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Electronics)
the last critique for this product wasnt totally off point.. this product does have its LITTLE annoyances like freezing up everynow and then on certain DVDs that my normal DVD player never has problems with.. it will tell you its a "bad Disc" when you find no scratches or dirt SOMETIMES .. it is a "tempermental" DVD player.. but all i ever have to do is clean the disc and put it back in ( sometimes more than once , but once its fine it will play the movie to the end) or maybe stop and re open the disc player with the remote.. pretty minor stuff to me considering the ABSOLUTELEY PERFECT EXTREME HIGH QUALITY HUGE SOUND you get out of this product for a low 100 bucks... i never have to "take the plug out" like the last critiquer says its not that serious with mine anyway

i was looking for a great sound system at a cheap price .. for the BIG BOX theater sound i was looking for i was expecting to pay atleast $200 - $300.. i never thought that when i went to Best Buy and searched theyre DVD home theater systems that i would find anything close to the quality of sound and power this HUGELY bargained product put out.. this product sounded so much better than the MORE EXPENSIVE home theater that sat next to it on the shelf at Best Buy that i had to pull the sales guy up next to me to tell me i wasnt crazy... i'd never seen a bigger name brand more expensive product sound so much crappier than the less expensive no name brand.. " you get what you pay for" kept popping up in my head... this product sounds just like if not better than some home theaters prced at $700 - $1000 ...

and when i got the system home i was nothing more than completely impressed with it.. crisp clear high definition.. gun shots.. roaring thunder all sound EXTREMELY life like a lil TOO life like.. car engines and bass trembles all great sounding.. just like the movies but better because its in a smaller space... and its really LOUD only at volume 11 ( it goes all the way up to 50!! ).. i live on the middle floor of an apt complex and im not even trying to go any higher than volume 11... cant imagine 3-5 numbers higher than that not getting me kicked out of the complex well enough 50 ....

a huge amount of extra features are on it too that i didnt even know came with it.. CLUB sounding stereo system radio.. you can download movies off your computer and play them .. show pictures .. hook it up to your TV for sports and more.. ive had it for 2/3 years now and still havent used more than half of the features to enhance the sound .. even though it has alot of enhancements like individual speaker decible changes.. reverbing and all that.. it sounds so good straight out the box it doesnt need it

i like the product so much im buying the modern looking Insignia 600W ch. with stand speakers i just saw on this website when i move (living in an apt complex kills the full enjoyment of it).. not that i need more power than what i already got with the 500W but the look of the speakers just adds the cherry on top of the cake
