Book Description

For twenty-seven-year-old Jaye Logan, life has been full of neglected opportunities and missed chances. He’s had an incredibly unadventurous career as an assistant librarian and only one serious girlfriend. But on the day he decides to literally climb a mountain and seek something better in life, something better finds him instead. That glorious day, Jaye rescues a beautiful young woman and realizes he’s just met the girl of his dreams. In the turmoil surrounding her rescue, though, he doesn’t even ask her name. She slips through his fingers--another casualty of his too cautious life. Reeling from disappointment, Jaye writes a simple yet heartfelt e-mail about the key to life and sends it winging into the ether. When that same inspirational e-mail returns to his inbox three years later--after impacting people around the world--Jaye is at another crucial intersection in life. The e-mail reminds him of what he lost, and he embarks on a life-changing journey to find it again, a journey full of adventure, mystery...and maybe even love. In the tradition of Nicholas Sparks, Insignificant Moments speaks to the profound impact a single moment can have on our lives and in our hearts.

Revised on 12/26/2012

Other novels by Asher include Across the Creek, Beneath the Willow, and Losing Faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Debut Novel August 17, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Insignificant Moments is a debut novel, and a smashing debut at that. I read this book straight through in just a few hours. When I finished it, I went back through and read several key parts again. While technically this book might be considered a romance, it most certainly isn't "chic lit" and will appeal to men as readily as it does to women. There is romance in the book, but primarily the romance is with life and living it to it's fullest. If you have ever regretted a missed opportunity you will connect with this story.

Asher's storytelling skills are outstanding. He weaves intricate details of his characters lives together clearly revealing how their choices effect one another long before they ever actually meet and he does this so deftly that the reader has no trouble following along and making those connections. In a few places throughout the story it is apparent Asher wasn't certain his subtle clues would bring the reader far enough to make the necessary connections and he gets a little heavy handed -- like when the doctor gives a cancer patient his prognosis from day one despite the fact that he is many months into his treatments.

As much as I loved this book I did have one other little problem that strikes me as ironic. I have written many book reviews and lambasted the authors for their sloppy grammar and writing. that isn't going to happen here. In fact, if anything Asher's story was written too precisely and too well. As a rule people don't think in formal sentences and linear patterna, but Asher's characters all do. A couple of times that pulled me out of the story, but not enough to keep this novel from landing on my "favorites shelf".

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story of life and love October 22, 2010
Format:Paperback
After climbing to the top of a mountain in the hopes of a life-changing moment, Jaye encounters a woman in need of help. He comes to her aid, but never works up the courage to ask her name before she is whisked away to the hospital. Feeling down, he sits at his computer and writes an inspirational email to everyone in his address book. Three years later, the email makes it way back to his inbox, and prompts him to take some chances in his own life.

Lately, my book selections have been pretty deep and serious (things like Middlesex and Little Bee), so I wasn't sure what I would think of this one. But I loved it! It was such a wonderful story of life and love and all the little, seemingly insignificant moments that can have such a strong impact on everyone around us. It's the story of a group of people who hardly interact, yet manage to completely alter each others' lives. And, yes, it's a story of love and romance.

The back of the book says this is written "in the tradition of Nicholas Sparks." I'll be honest. I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book. But I know his books are very popular, so if you like him, you should definitely pick up Insignificant Moments. Although inspirational (in a non-religious way), this book is a very easy, enjoyable read. The characters are all well developed and likable, and the story, while somewhat predictable, has enough surprises to make it interesting and satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing insignificant here! August 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I wish here was a way to give this book 10 stars!
The amazing way lives are intertwined by the details that occur in this story is wonderful. Yes, a little too good to be true by the end, but handled so skillfully that I never found myself distracted. I fell in love with the characters & wanted to see them all have what they were really needing.
I rarely find myself so moved by a story until the end, but this one had me sobbing on more than one occasion. It's not that it is such a sad set of circumstances, but the sacrifices & trials drew me in completely.
Lucky for me I snagged this gem for free, but I almost feel guilty...it was that good!

This book was about real life and how one simple decision changes other peoples lives in ways unimagined until it all comes full circle. Many wonderful reminders of today matters and the decisions made today matter. Thanks for a great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review: Insignificant Moments by Jeremy Asher August 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
Insignificant Moments

In his fiction book Insignificant Moments, Jeremy Asher shares the story of the main character Jaye who finds himself becoming conscious of opportunities he has missed in life. A newspaper article inspires him to attempt to climb Longs Peak. While on his climb, he comes to the rescue of a female climber who is injured. He realizes she is the girl of his dreams, but fails to find out her name or how to contact her. Returning to life as normal seems impossible, so he pens a simple email titled Brave at Heart encouraging those that read it to embrace life. The story follows the next 3 years as Jaye is confronted by his own email & what he should do to embrace life.

This is Jeremy Asher's first book. His writing very much reminds me of Nicholas Sparks. I hated that I had to put the book down at bedtime & couldn't wait to get home the next day to read the rest of this book. Amazing story that will grab hold of your heart! I hope to see this author write more in the future. I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars.

I don't usually like novels that jump back and forth between characters but Mr. Archer pulled it all together. Enjoyed this book very much and will look for more books by him.

More About the Author

I am a husband and the father of four beautiful children. My boys, Chance and Kyle, are my soccer and basketball players, and my daughters, Gabby and Andee, are the readers and artists in the family. By day I work in the world of business, mainly in Supply Chain. When I'm not working, I enjoy nothing more than hanging out with my family. I help coach the boys' soccer team and watch the latest movies with the girls. But when the kids are in bed, my wife, Brandi, and I spend our evenings catching up on our shows.
Work and family are not my only passions in life. I started writing short stories in my twenties. I wrote for fun with no dreams of actually becoming an "author" of books. My drive for storytelling began when I was a little kid. It was what my family did when we got together for holidays or reunions, and it has stuck with me.
Insignificant Moments is my first novel. The idea came to me the day I opened a chain email. I don't remember much about that day, but I remember how good I felt after reading that email. I thought, what if an email from a stranger had the power to impact the lives of many people? Then I tried to think of how that ripple could affect the rest of the world. The idea was too big for a short story, so I shelved it. That was until the day that Brandi told me I should try writing a novel. So I did.
After writing Insignificant Moments, I started receiving emails from people, most of whom I've never met, telling me how much they enjoyed the story and wanted to read more. Luckily, I had Across the Creek already in motion. And for the past two years, I have been working on this story. I've had a blast writing the lives of Jesse, Sarah, Robbie, and Kevin. And I was so excited the day I was able to finally release it.
My next book is Beneath the Willow, the sequel to Across the Creek. This story brings back many of the characters from the first book and a whole new set of obstacles for them to overcome. But I feel this story brings everything full circle.
As much as I enjoy writing, I wouldn't have made it this far without the love and support of my family and friends. They are the ones who encourage me every day and inspire me to continue chasing my dream.
