5.0 out of 5 stars lost classic of bay area thrash!, July 11, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Insomnia (Audio CD)
this box set is the best deal and covers everything from these great musicans.able to compete with most other thrash bands of the time when testament,exodus,overkill,vio-lence, forbidden and sacred reich ect. were the new up and comers and taking the thrash to the masses under the 4 big dogs these guy were putting out some great thrash making big waves on the west coast and putting their foot in europe but for the most part alot of the thrash world had no idea the band/music they were missing.
defiance:had the chops to infect any venue they played with huge pits, with diversity and intestity like testament, heathen, and forbidden, the strait forwar thrashing and power of death angel, metal church, laaz rocket, and possessed ,and the lyrical surgical skills of vio-lence,exodus,dark angel and over kill.plainly the thrashed till death!must have for thrash collectors!

this is a definetly underrated band I even forgot just about.this is excellent all three cds in on boxset I hear abit of testament, heathen and death angel in them after this long recess not listening to then for 10 or more years.a great lost treasure, but why they would put old audio tape versions of the bonus track on this is in my eyes is poor judgement. It needs to be put these tracks on a four cd because it messes up the listening experience the tape sound warped and very gritty this is the only reason it didn't get a 5 star review.but excellent box set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old school lives!!!, February 15, 2008

People say I'm stuck in the extreme metal/rock scene of the past. So what! Most of these folks are listening to the nu-metal/nu-rock crap polluting the airwaves today or don't like rock music. That's ok because everybody is entitled to his or her opinion and musical taste. I respect that and appreciate it. Thank God for being able to live in a pluralistic and free society where different ideas can coexist and shape it.In my opinion, 99.9% of today's bands can't compare to even the lamest bands of the past. A very good example is this band. They had the musicianship, technicality, aggressiveness and melody to duke it out with Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Sepultura, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love those other bands and all the others that were around that time and might still be around. It's just that these guys have been so underrated and not so well known like the other bands I just mentioned that it's a shame. I had the oportunity to see them live back in the days, and they blew me away. I also had each original cassette tape when they came out. If you love old-school extreme metal/rock from back in the days, do yourself a favor and buy this box set. Please support all the old-school extreme metal/rock and death to the nu-metal/nu-rock crap that is polluting the airwaves of today. They are just lame posers!
