Book Description

Insomnia.

An inability to sleep; a state of agitated wakefulness, often as a result of troubling thoughts.

The word derives from the Latin roots in (“not”) + somnus (“sleep”). Further back, the word has roots from the Proto-Indo-European, in the term swepnos, meaning “dream.”

In somnia: engaged in the act of dreaming.

To sleep, perchance to dream.

Somnus also refers, in the figurative sense, to death. The ancient Roman god of sleep shared that name; he was a son of Night and brother of Death.

To dream, perhaps of dying.

All themes in this collection.

Includes the following titles:

The Grin

The Scenario Egg

A Thing for Zombies

Reached in Error

Raise the Dead

The Sacrifices We Make

The Promises We Keep

"A thoroughly enjoyable read."

About the Author

Saul spent his formative years in a creaky century-old house overlooking the Erie Canal in Upstate New York. His bedroom was a refurbished attic, which he shared with all manner of creatures, not all, he is convinced, flesh and blood.

After bouncing around the US and Europe, he settled down to pursue a career in the sciences, opting to study the mysteries of human molecular genetics. But even positions as an experimental biologist, teacher, manager and biotech entrepreneur could keep him from his true love: literature.

eFiction magazine calls Saul a writer armed with "a PhD and a whacked out sense of humor." He now writes speculative fiction full time from his attic-less home in the San Francisco Bay Area, which he shares with his wife, kids, four dogs, three cats, six chickens and the ocasional possum.

More About the Author

Saul writes in several speculative fiction genres, including horror, cyberpunk, biopunk, and straight science fiction. A former Army medic and trauma specialist, he earned a PhD in molecular biology and genetics; his works are heavily informed by these past experiences.

Saul spent his formative years in a century-old house overlooking the Erie Canal in Upstate New York. He shared an attic room with all manner of creatures, not all, he is convinced, flesh and blood.

After several years spent overseas and working his way to executive positions in biotech, he returned to his true passion of storytelling.

He now writes full time from his home in the San Francisco Bay Area. He continues to be haunted by a variety of creatures, including a wife, kids, three dogs, three cats, twenty chickens, a wayward rooster, and one very grumpy possum. They are all flesh and blood.

Except for the possum, which he's sure is the reincarnated spirit of Jack Torrance.
