4.0 out of 5 stars Adema whets our appetites with a handful of offerings.
For every fan of Adema who can't wait to get their hands on a new album, this EP is a good way to ease the tension. With two new songs, "Immortal" and "Shattered", an Alice in Chains cover, "Nutshell", and a handful of re-released tracks, it's a short little listen.

I am a big fan of adema and was excited to see this CD. First off let me say that of the seven tracks three are unreleased. Adema is one my most favorite CDs and im a big fan of remixes so i was glad to see some remixes on this CD. However these weren't that great. The Remix for Freaking Out was mediocre at best. The only thing that was really changed was the instrumentals, the vocals are in the same order, and the new instrumentals didn't sound that much different from the original. However, the remix for The Way You Like It was better. It too had nothing rearranged and the vocals were not changed however the new instrumentals were better, and new effects such as echos and dj scratching were added. The three new tracks are Very good because they were made by adema, unlike the remixes. They overall sound very good. Both Immortal and Shattered are the traditional Hard-Rock. However, Nutshell shows a little bit of thier softer side. The Live track is just like any other live track and the radio edit for Giving In is just Giving In with no curse words. The CD says that there are three videos on the CD, one of which is for Immortal, but i wasn't able to find them. Anywat great for an Adema fan, but you should try Adema first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adema whets our appetites with a handful of offerings., January 4, 2003
This review is from: Insomniac's Dream (Audio CD)
For every fan of Adema who can't wait to get their hands on a new album, this EP is a good way to ease the tension. With two new songs, "Immortal" and "Shattered", an Alice in Chains cover, "Nutshell", and a handful of re-released tracks, it's a short little listen.

1. "Immortal"
This song is a good way to start off, considering that it's one of only two new songs. This song shows the direction Adema's heading in, and boy, is it a good one.

2. "Shattered"
Similar to "Immortal", this song is a good sign of things to come. If Adema's next album sounds like this, it'll be at the top of my "to-buy" list.

3. "Nutshell" (Alice in Chains cover)
This song is, well, different. Mike Chavez II, the lead singer, doesn't really have an acoustic-friendly voice, but this song still deserves some merit.

4. "Freaking Out" (Chris Vrenna Remix)
This song, which was one of my favorites on the self-titeld album, loses nothing in the remix, and gains nothing.

5. "The Way You Like It" (Sam "Sever" Citrin Remix)
For those of you who are like me and have heard "The Way You Like It" a million times, this remix is very, very refreshing. It provides a whole different rhythm, and is a very worthwhile listen for any Adema fan.

6. "Do What You Want to Do" (Live)
The obligatory live track, this is a very good live Adema recording (as opposed to some awful ones I've heard).

7. "Giving In" (Radio Mix)
I'm not really sure why this song is on here... probably just to increase the number of tracks on the CD. But, here it is, the same song from the self-titled, just censored.

So, who should buy this album? If you don't have Adema's self-titled debut album, buy it instead. However, if you have it and love it, then this CD is a great buy.

To be honest, I only started to get into Adema, when I heard Immortal on Mortal Kombat:DA.

Not bad, although Unstable is the better album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not complete, but not bad either., December 1, 2002

This review is from: Insomniac's Dream (Audio CD)
First of all, the only 2 origional songs are "Immortal" and "Shattered" (well, shattered can be somewhat of an exception, those of you who had it on the first). They both are great songs, nice and heavy.
Nutshell, well, its interesting to listen to. I never heard the origional, but this versions not too bad. Their vocals are very different from AiC, so naturally the songs going to be different.
As with the other songs, there not bad either. We get slightly heavier versions of "Freaking Out" and "The Way You Like It", a live version of "Do What You Want To Do", which features a bit more scream like vocals that sound actually really good, which makes me wonder why mark never uses them more often.
Lastly, ...and Least, we have a "radio" version of "Giving In" which differs so little from the origional it boggles me why they just didnt make an origional song to fill the last space.
Overall, its not bad, and the new songs are great, but i expected more. btw, The so called enhaced features arent actually in the cd, but are online so that you download them instead, which dissapointed me a bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but...lacking a bit., January 10, 2003

this is a pretty good album, every last track on this cd is great. the only flaw i found on this cd was that the "The way you like it" mix, was censored. and if it werent censored, id say itd be the best song on the entire EP with its new technoish sound. so, it remains number 2. Immortal (my favorite song on insomniac's dream) is a song from the new hit video game, "mortal kombat-deadly alliance" with angry lyrics, a VERY good song indeed. Shattered (another good song) is much like Immortal, its got Mark Chavez portraying angry lyrics much like those of Immortal. Nutshell..is maybe (if i could pick 2 i really would) the 2nd of the best songs. its a cover version of the Alice in Chains song Nutshell. the last 3 songs on here are Giving in (radio mix) which i dont even see why was put on the album, its not even a mix, despite that, its edited. Do what you want to do (live) is ALOT better than the original studio version, nuff said. Freaking out(yes another remix)..is my 3rd and favorite song on ID. it was also a fav. of mine on the self titled album. this albums only flaw was that it censored 2 songs on it while having a parental advisory sticker upon it. all in all, good EP. get it if youre a major Adema fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars ADEMA's new EP, December 16, 2002
This review is from: Insomniac's Dream (Audio CD)
OK to start with why is everyone bashing Nutshell? It's not that bad and it was meant as a tribute to AIC. With that said this is a pretty good CD. Immortal is probaly the best song on the thing and Do What You Want To Do Live is a nice treat if you haven't seen the band live. Though I cannot wait for their new CD thats coming, this is good enough until then.

despite the people that seem to have such a narrow taste in music that they cant see the artistic style or emotion this band spills out into its music. adema is an execellent band with really good songs. i want everything this talented band puts on the shelf. nevermind that i just download it all, thats not the point.

4.0 out of 5 stars From a slightly biased AiC fan...., October 25, 2002
By
This review is from: Insomniac's Dream (Audio CD)
Yes, It's an Alice In Chains cover. They decided to cover this shortly after Layne's death. More or less, these are the tracks on this EP
1)Immortal(made for an upcoming Mortal Kombat game)
2)Shattered
3)Nutshell(AIC cover..will comment on..)
4)Freaking Out(Chris Vrenna Remix)
5)The Way You Like It(Sam "Sever" Citrin Remix)
6)Do What You Want To Do(live)
7)Giving In(radio mix)

Even though there are 7 tracks, I'll only comment on two. The Immortal track is hard and heavy. This is a band that could use 2-3 voices all the time instead of just Jon's step bro. Nutshell.....two viewpoint's here....

Fan=In one way, it doesnt even compare to the original. They added bongos and sounds like they went electric instead of the original acoustic. In another, it's a nice cover too though in the way that he adds a little flavor, since he has his own vocalization.

Musician=I wouldnt have done it any other way myself. As a musician, it's perfectly normal for someone to change a cover a little bit. Hey, we do angry chair and its not like the cover at all but we're trying.

All in all, It's a keeper to me. 4 stars for trying to be original on a cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough For Any New Fan!, October 7, 2009

I've bought this album a couple months ago, and i'm a new Adema fan, and i'm truly happy with my buy!
1 Immortal, 5 stars, great song! One of the best in Nu Metal!
2 Shattered, 5 stars, another great song, with a different tone!
3 Nutshell, 4, 1/2 stars, great acoustic cover but i found that the vocals and instruments were a bit mixed up...
4 Freaking Out [Remix], 4 stars, good remix but I think that Industrial Rock does not match up to their title.
5 The Way You Like it [Remix]-5 stars, Awesome! Compared to the original, Mark kind of uses a hip-hop rhyme in this song, and removing guitar, and drums and adding beats, and scratches, gives it a different version!
6 Do What You Want You Want to Do [Live] - 5 stars, this one beats the studio version, because its harder!
7 Giving In, 5 stars, Amazing Song, and truly meaningful!

If you are a new Adema Fan, than I recommend this one because it gives 3 previously unreleased songs, hit remixes, a live track, and a couple videos!
