4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging easy reader, September 20, 2000
Inspector Hopper and his companion McBugg solve three mysteries in this engaging collection of short stories for beginning readers. One of the hardest aspects of writing a book for beginning readers seems to be the creation of interesting characters and entertaining stories while maintaining an appropriate vocabulary and reading level. Beginning readers will like both Hopper and his ever-hungry friend McBugg and will enjoy trying to solve the mysteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Nephew's Favorite Storybooks, June 12, 2001
By A Customer
If you are looking for a mystery novel for a beginning reader, this is the book. My nephew reads the story to his younger sister, and then shows her the colorful and appropriate illustrations. Inspector Hopper comes to life in these suspenseful tales. Doug Cushman has a unique talent for composing a detailed story in an easy-to-read format. A recommended addition to any public or private library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun book, November 29, 2013
This review is from: Inspector Hopper (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
This is such a fun--and funny--book for young children. All three of my children have enjoyed reading it, and they span the ages of 2 to 8. You will love the two main protagonists. And your kids will want to read it again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mystery, March 27, 2013
This review is from: Inspector Hopper (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
In the book Inspector Hopper, written by, Doug Cushman, Hopper gets a call. Ring! Ring! Mrs. Ladybug is missing. McBug and Hopper go to find her. As they walked along they saw worm's house. Hopper said,"have you seen Mrs. lady bug?" "No", said worm. Then Hopper asked every animal in the forest. They all said " No". Will Mrs. ladybug ever be found? I like this book because of the funny words and that the pictures helped me with the words. I reccommend this book to people who like mysteries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three Fun Stories, January 26, 2012
This review is from: Inspector Hopper (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
This book contains three easy-to-read stories featuring Inspector Hopper, a grasshopper detective, and his assistant, McBugg, who is always hungry. In the first story, Mr. Ladybug asks Inspector Hopper to find Mrs. Ladybug, who is missing. The only clue is a blue stain on the carpet near her chair. After walking along and asking everyone they encounter a question, the detectives end up in a blueberry patch, where they find Mrs. Ladybug.

In the second story, Skeet has lost his boat, which was a leaf. Following the same pattern as in the first story, the two detectives, with Skeet in tow, walk along and ask questions of everyone they encounter. As it turns out, a caterpillar ate the boat because it was a leaf.

The third story is better constructed than the first two. In it, the two detectives are walking home at night and think the moon is following them because it wants to be a detective, too. They tell the moon that it must learn to follow people more carefully. The moon then goes behind a cloud, creating darkness which traps a rat thief. All three detectives are satisfied with their work.
