Crystalline fretwork delights, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Inspiracao (Audio CD)
I've always enjoyed Bau's musicianship on Cesaria Evora's albums. It is wonderful to be able to focus on his fretwork and enjoy it's crystalline purity. His playing here is even crisper and more fluid than when he is adorning vocals. He meets the challenge of stepping out as the lead voice. This is a very enjoyable album.

Outstanding tropical instrumentals..., May 11, 2006
Bau was in Cesaria Evora's group, and the
general sound of her band is retained here.
I find his mellow "with fire" string-driven music to be
beautiful. It is completely instrumental
and influenced by Latin, Portugese and
Brasilian sounds. He primarily plays
cavaquinho (a steel-stringed ukelele) and
guitar. Other instruments include sax, bass
and percussion. (On his other CDs Bau plays
violin, but the intonation and tone is hard
to listen to.) Unique and highly recommended!
