Inspiration Sandwich: Stories to Inspire Our Creative Freedom

While in college about 4 years ago I visited the campus bookstore quite a lot. One day I came across this splash of jubulant color peeking at me between just plain books. I picked up the "Sandwich" and flipped through it and thought WOW. Never before had I seen anything like it- The colors, the spirit, the nourishing effect it had. I read it all the day I bought it, and was filled with renewed energy and zest for the little things. This book made me want to go out and have an adventure- to taste and explore life. Over the next few months (And years!) I searched for more of her books and was overjoyed to find every one that I did. All of Sarks books have this effect- I never get tired of her words, thoughts and humor. The books (Creative Companion, Inspiration Sandwich, Living Juicy, Journal and Play Book, and Succulent Wild Woman) sit on my prized book bookshelf in my bedroom, and I refer to them often. Sarks books are not a one-time read- they are referance for the spirit!

I got this book while on a cruise in the islands from Puerto rico. It was on the ship they had a small shop and Sarks books were displayed on a shelf. The wonderful colors seemed to have been pulling because I stood there for possibly a half an hour reading through all of them. I started with this book, as a first for my Sark collection. I read it over and over, the wild creativity and imagination she has brings me to new heights! Now I have miracle walks too! I turned my room into my own Magic Cottage, a place to getaway use my creative self, and read Sarks books! I hope to meet her one day and see how beautiful her home, and herself really are! From her awesome stories of constant travel and dangerous tea party's. I know she is my best friend who I never knew, (Or will know!) I am 12 years old, and I am started a new creative life, thank you so much sark! We love you, and your mind!

I have been a huge SARK fan for as long as I can remember, and have read and enjoyed all her marvellously and divinely coloured works.

So, as much as I am inspired by her and the work she has done, I honestly believe that her earlier works are much more relevant, beautiful and divine than her latter ones. While I would absolutely recommend that everyone purchase a copy of 'Eat Mangoes Naked' and other titles, I can't help but tire slightly of her SARK font, when her actual writing was one of the most delicious parts about her books. I guess I feel that the true beauty of SARK is so much more accessible within her earlier works, such as this, whereas the latter ones are undoubtedly that much more commericalised and repetitive.

Along with 'Living Juicy', I believe that this is the best of the lot. The stories are absolutely divine and inspiring, the drawings and colours vulnerable and lovable.

What a truly life-changing find this work is.

I love this book. I'm going through a very, very difficult loss and the last thing I wanted was an upbeat book. But without realizing it, I became transformed into a world of possibility and fun. Read and cherish this book.

And let discovering SARK's books be one of them! This book is filled with SARK's distinctive handwritten thoughts and doodles. The colored inserts are a touch that adds some visual jump to the book. I particularly like the inserted small book 'Daily Miracles': there are miracles everywhere, relax, fill your heart with wonder, you are not alone, have an adventure, relax. These thoughts are the backbone of "Inspiration Sandwich" and SARK gives all kinds of great examples and suggestions on how to incorporate them into your life. If you're looking for some ideas on how to add joy and passion to your life, in SARK's words, "Eat this book".

This isn't a new book (it was published in 1992). In some ways it isn't even a book at all. Yes it is shaped like a book and comes in a book-like binding. But it is more like a hand written (yes it is produced in the author's hand writing) journal and a collection of water color art than a traditional book.

The book is written by Sark, a highly creative and inspiring woman who shares in this book ways to be inspired and to increase your creativity. Here are the opening lines from the foreword, which seems to capture the essence of the book:

"This book is food for your soul, and a bubble bath for your spirit! It is a guide to keeping your creativity alive, and I wrote it for you."

This isn't a book to sit in read in one sitting, though I have done that. It is a book to pick up, read, ponder, put down and marvel at. It is worth buying for the words, it is worth buying for the format, and it is worth buying for the art.

I picked it off of my shelf today to write this recommendation, and I'm sure I will read some or all of it before it gets back to my shelf.

It is that kind of book.

this is one of the most fun books ever. after flipping through sark's detailing of her various adventures, you'll want to run (or skip or cartwheel) outside to have your own happiness mystical journeys, too. sark is a neverending neverneverlandish delight, and her enthusiasm is very effortlessly catching. this book makes a brilliant gift (birthdays, unbirthdays, christmas, groundhogs day...), and it's perfect for people of all sorts, including (and especially!) kids.

Sark is truly inspirational! She reminds us to have fun, laugh out loud and see the joy in life. Perhaps the thought that has stuck with me the most that Sark wrote is "Be truly Happy and the money will follow." We don't have to work for our stuff, we can work to feed our souls.....the paycheck is just icing on the cake.

I had recieved this book as a present and i love it! Inspiration sandwich makes you feel like you can do anything!

This book really opens your mind on the world around you and the fun you can have with it. After reading it i felt compelled to go out and be happy, make myself and others happy. I felt renewed and inspired to be myself and be the best person i can be. If you read this book, be prepared to encounter questions, anwsers and ideas. It's pages are filled with good ideas and stories, whether with plot or without. The book really made me feel better about myself and everything. GO AND SPREAD JOY!
