5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, understand, and apply
The New Century Version is one of the easiest to read versions of the Bible that I have ever studied. It is basically plain English, and very easy to understand. Also, thanks to the Editor, Max Lucado, there are many insightful selections from many Christian works in the margins to help guide your studies, devotionals, and personal enrichment. I have used this...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit too simple, but fairly accurate
"God intended for everyone to be able to understand his Word" begins the preface of the New Century Version (NCV). To reach such a goal, NCV translators used The Living Word Vocabulary, the standard used by such publishers of The World Book Encyclopedia to help decide suitable vocabulary for this version. This version, also, replaced rhetorical questions with direct...

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, understand, and apply, January 16, 1999
The New Century Version is one of the easiest to read versions of the Bible that I have ever studied. It is basically plain English, and very easy to understand. Also, thanks to the Editor, Max Lucado, there are many insightful selections from many Christian works in the margins to help guide your studies, devotionals, and personal enrichment. I have used this Bible, not only in my own studies, but as gifts for both Christian and "pre-"Christians alike. This makes an excellent study tool for anyone who wants to know more about God, Jesus, Christianity and how to live the life to which God has called us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent translation with truly inspirational commentaries, September 18, 1998
By A Customer
I really love the New Century Version of the Bible. I can't understand why it isn't more popular. It's elegant and accurate, and yet remarkably easy to read. There are many passages that were unclear to me in other translations, but were suddenly comprehensible in this version. An added bonus to this edition of the NCV are commentaries by Lucado and other prominent Christian writers. These brief "life lessons" really *are* inspirational, and they don't promote any particular denominational slant. This is a wonderful devotional Bible. I keep mine in my nightstand; reading a chapter or two just before I go to sleep each night is a peaceful, prayerful end to my days.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE truly inspirational study Bible!, May 28, 1999
By A Customer
This is my absolute favorite Bible. The New Century Version makes this version easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to share with others. Add in all the "life lessons" that go with the scriptures by not only Max Lucado but a literal "Who's who" in Christian literature and you'll know why this version is fantastic! Did I mention the "100 greatest thoughts" section or the awesome chapter introductions that could only come from Max? 5 out of 5 stars, easy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Blessing, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This Bible really brings the Word of God to life by making it more easily understood. With his God-given ability to draw the reader into his examples, it brings the Word of God to life. Inside are also prayer helps for the tough times when God seems distant or extra distant depending on where you are spiritually. With uplifting insights and scriptural helps inside, this is a "must have" for your Bible list.

5.0 out of 5 stars A NKJV version of the Bible with comments by Lucado & others, August 23, 1998
This more modern translation of the Bible (NKJV) with comments by Max Lucado & other inspirational writers inspired by God is easy to read & understand. The comments explain the historical context of the Scriptures & add modern-day examples of how to apply what the Bible is saying to us today. I've found it really helpful in knowing what the Bible says about how to live a Christian life in these troubled times, find joy in life, and understand the purposes of some of the things that are going on in our modern world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing!!!, July 31, 2001
I would definitely recommend this edition of the Bible to anyone who wishes to study it or understand it more completely. Max uses excerpts from his own books, and books by Billy Graham, Charles Swindoll, Dwight Moody, and tons of other Christian authors. There is an excerpt on almost every page!! Max has also set up a two year reading program in the back, as well as very useful indexes on readings on subjects like hope, trusting God, dealing with doubt, and looking forward to heaven. I have always enjoyed Max Lucado's books and wished I could have some of his insight when reading the Bible, and I have found the perfect item!! Max makes the Word of God easier to understand in this New Century Version, and I hope that everyone who buys it loves it as much as I do... Enjoy!!!

Thank you so much, Max Lucado and others who have given us The Word of God along with your advice on living daily in the Christain walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, November 1, 2001
By A Customer
This Bible is very readable. I keep several different translations in my home, but this is the one I pick up to read when I really want to enjoy and understand what I am reading without reading the same passage several times over. The inspirations Max writes on the sides are really beautiful. I am buying one of these for my daughter's graduation from college.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and Simple!!, January 17, 2004
By
Terry (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
I have reviewed the NCV Inspirational Bible another time but wish to highlight several points again. The Inspirational Bible stays by my bedside except when I take it to church. The design of this bible is excellent. The font is clear and large enough to read easily unlike many other Bibles. The NCV text is smooth and simple but refreshing when you just want to absorb the word by actually "reading" large sections at a time in proper context. The Inspirational notes often hit home and are written by an assortment of christians, most of whom are well known scholars or christian leaders. The only impovement I would recommend would be to offer a copy with sewn binding for durability. The recently released Devotional Bible is a revised edition but I like the original better due to its larger and clearer font and its Topical Concordance which is lacking in the revised edition. I love this Bible so much that I own about ten copies- 5 paperback and 5 hardcover. Some of these are for gifts but I always like to have a few extras around because I wear mine out every two years and need to replace it. Max Lucado is the editor and did a great job. Enjoy this Bible!!!!
