5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting, Interesting and So Important in Our Times!
I loved Sister Pat's book! I ordered it for "FREE" because I wanted to 'check it out' sort of, but it's so beautifully written with love that I had to send the money.:) How many other people do you know who would send you a free book with their written blessing inside the cover? None that I know of for sure!

This book should be read by everyone and anyone, believer...

The "inspirational" stories range from the gooily sentimental and self-centered to the embarassingly erroneous. One writer claims Mother Seton had a devotion to the "Miraculous" Medal, though she died in 1821 and Our Lady of the Medal appeared in 1830! Many writers are very unfamiliar with Catholicism in general, and at least one talks of a...

This book should be read by everyone and anyone, believer or unbeliever. It touches hearts, souls and minds. Anyone who can come away from reading this untouched in some way, well, I don't think anyone COULD come away from it untouched in some way, no matter how small.

God bless Sister Pat for her inspiration to have this book published and God bless all who sent in their stories. The Rosary is a powerful weapon in our hands. We just need to pick it up and start using it. Our Blessed Mother wouldn't tell us to 'pray the rosary' if it wasn't powerful and meaningful. It's our "stairway to Heaven" so to speak, our beads to climb to God's ear through Mary's prayers in the beautiful rosary. Thank you for sharing this book with us, Sister Pat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful tool for energizing faith in prayer, May 20, 2005
By
Glutton for books (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
The rosary is a prayerful devotion that is more than a millennium old. It comprises praying specific prayers while meditating on events from the New Testament.

"101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary" was written for "the year of the rosary," 2003. The book comprises a collection of short personal tales from average people all over the world, who believe that they have received help from God from challenges in their life or assistance for those they love, through praying the rosary. Many of the stories are remarkable miracles of healings from mortal illnesses and saving during accidents or on the battlefield. Others are testimonies of incidences of personal inner healing experienced or witnessed. The stories are short and can easily be read as uplifting food for meditation and encouragement before going to bed, or for when the reader wants a quit does of faith and hope during a hectic day. The chapters of the book are peppered with biblical quotes and quotes from the ages expressing people's belief in the power of the rosary, such as Mother Theresa, Patrick Peyton, and Lucia, of the children who allegedly received messages about the rosary at Fatima, and many others who have been recognized as saints. The writing is easily accessible to people of all ages.

The book also includes an extensive appendix to answer any questions the reader might have about the rosary; its history and promises associated with recourse of the rosary; directions on how to pray with one; a list of web site that provide additional information, including one operated by the author (www.rosary101.com , which has more chapters from the book available for viewing); instructions for making your own rosary; and encyclical published during the year of the rosary (one of the last documents drafted by Pope John Paul II). The is a great gift to people who are struggling with spiritual dryness, spiritual seekers looking for new ways to pray, or people who recently return to or enter a church. I have found it to be an immeasurable source of encouragement during difficult times, for helping me retain my faith and strongly recommend it to any one open to learning about powerful Christian prayer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story for Everyone, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
Anyone who has enjoyed the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, "Guideposts," or The Christophers "Three Minutes a Day," will enjoy this book too. It is a wonderful collection of personal accounts telling how praying the rosary has provided healing, strength, consolation, and direction in the varied life problems most everyone faces. Every reader will find at least one story to which he / she can relate.

To date, I have purchased at least a dozen copies, and finally have one to call my own. Although every order included a copy for myself, none ever remained. With every order, I identified yet another person who would really like the book. Many of them have since ordered more copies for family and friends.

Even non-readers will enjoy this book. No story is very long, but every story teaches a powerful lesson. It's a great book for the nightstand as each story offers peace that can unwind those who are stressed and calm those suffering through a restless night.

The stories can also be used as bedtime stories or for reading times with children. The stories provide great opportunities to teach and inspire the children - something sorely needed amid the violence and fears our children face daily.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary, February 18, 2004
This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
Around a year ago I began saying a rosary with a friend every week, first praying for her intentions, then gradually adding my own. Something very special began to happen. Things I prayed for, outright miracles began to manifest, and the more I prayed the rosary, the more confident I became that God was really listening. Because of the this first hand experience, I bought Sr. Pat Proctor's book and my hunches were confirmed. I, along with over 101 other people, share the same reality that God listens and Mary is His conduit. This book was inspirational without being overtly religious and a riveting read.

"101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary" is a must-read for all people seeking more information on this age-old prayer. Instead of a heavy theological treatise, this book provides concrete, very readable, examples of the power of prayer.
Sister Patricia Proctor has done an excellent job of putting together a very readable, remarkable book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and real...a treasure, February 17, 2004
This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
For those of us wanting to connect more with our faith and improve our prayer life, this book is truly inspirational. The people who have shared their stories here have given so much to the readers who are transported to their worlds. If you love the Rosary, this is the book for you. If you wonder why other people are so wrapped up it and it doesn't appeal to you, then this book is even more for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars wow - something extraordinary in rosarian literature, July 26, 2003
This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
What's not to like about this book? From the charming story behind the book, to the many testaments of the rosary, this is a very fun book which should appeal to just about any Catholic (from the fanatic to the moderate) and may just have an incredible impact on those who are not. The book has over 101 stories and I'd say about a quarter are exceptional and 90 percent of the others are good stories. A very excellent touch is the quotations from the saints and other Catholic figures on the rosary and Mary (as well as some prayers too) that are interspersed between the stories. Given the rather light tone of the book, the inclusion of Pope John Paul II's encyclical letter on the rosary provides a perfect balance to this book.

I rate this book 5 as it is one of a small handful of books on the rosary that I think is the very best. On the one hand, this book is not for theologians (aside from JPII's letter) or anyone interested in deepening their rosary meditations (like many other books on the rosary, the section devoted to the mysteries is pretty brief). Additionally, some of the stories I simply wouldn't include in such a collection.

On the other hand the book is simply perfect in responding to the Pope's call to once again take up the rosary. The stories are very encouraging, and the tone and presentation of the book will make it accessible to anyone and above all those that need to read this book the most. Taken as a whole, the stories present a powerful collage of the human drama.

Bravo! I look forward to a sequel or perhaps more forward to a 2nd edition that includes twice the number of stories and information on the rosary.

This review is from: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary (Paperback)
Here is an easily readable book about ordinary folks who find extraordinary grace through prayer. To begin with, it doesn't matter what you believe about Mary, the Mother of Christ, or about the rosary. What impresses me about this book is that the stories are written by people just like me. You don't need a degree in theology to appreciate the simple yet profound faith expressed in every story.
