5.0 out of 5 stars The most inspiring jewelry book I own (or I've seen!), July 10, 2008
By
Sarah "Etsy Saire" (Lambertville, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inspired Wire (Paperback)
I own many jewelry books of several types and this book is BY FAR leaps and bounds above the rest in all the important areas. It is gorgeous to look at and ALL of the projects are inspirational - meaning that they lead your mind to other applications of the techniques shown. It is an excellent teaching tool: it details particularly well the materials and tools you will need to be successful with this type of jewelry work, and the instructions for each technique and project are so well outlined and easy to follow. I truly am blown away by this book! (in case you can't tell!) Most books I've found to be somewhat disappointing, and not always as well-written as you might hope for. But to find all of that PLUS to love EVERY project... WELL! What an accomplishment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful!, April 26, 2008
This review is from: Inspired Wire (Paperback)
I am admittedly the author's sister, but an avid jewelry hobbyist in my own right. The difference is that I am self-taught and my sister actually went to art school at one of the top-notch schools in the country where she learned about jewelry design (among other things).

I mostly buy pre-made wire findings I need for making jewelry -- things like clasps and eye pins. But her book teaches how to make these on your own, which I am going to start to do. Hopefully, I can save some money doing it.

The jewelry I make is usually strung on tiger tail or leather. This book takes me beyond pushing beads on a string and, starting at an easy level, teaches me to think more creatively about the "architecture" of the piece. Her instructions are very detailed and clear and easy to follow.

Her book starts out easy, so it's great for people like me who are just starting to explore new ways to make jewelry. The book ends with some pretty complicated pieces, so it's also good for people who know a lot already and are looking for a little inspiration.

I have been making wire wrapped jewelry for over 20 years to help me "unwind" from teaching and working in the IT field. Being self-taught, over the years I have purchased many books and magazines on the subject to give me guidance and ideas. I passed on this book several times because the pictures on the cover looked a little "frilly" for my tastes.

However, I glanced at a copy in a local art store and was immediately enamored and fascinating by the incredible designs, easy to follow directions, and logical hints that I should have thought of myself. Since the art store copy was damaged I placed the order on Amazon as soon as I got home.

Since receiving it I have made and then modified many of the projects Ms. Wuller offers. Everyone I have given one of these pieces to has loved it and complimented me on the designs. While I have many excellent books on the subject, this one and Jewelry Studio: Wire Wrapping, stand out for their inspired designs, ease of understanding, and total enjoyment in crafting.

As you may have guessed, I strongly recommend, even urge you, to enter the world of Ms. Wuller and allow her words, projects, and pictures to stimulate and expand your artistic abilities in the world wire wrapped jewelry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good projects, great pictures and instructions, June 25, 2009
This review is from: Inspired Wire (Paperback)
Although this is not my favorite jewelry making book, it is a very good jewelry making book, and I've used it quite a bit. If you enjoy wirework as much as I, then you will enjoy this book.

It's important to me that jewelry books have a lot of pictures for step by step understanding of the project. It's also important they have clear instructions. This is a book which has both. Whether I'm bending or twisting wire with my hands or a tool it's important the project are something I'd actually wear,

In this book you'll learn to bend, twist, wrap, and hammer wire to make beautiful earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. You'll also learn to work on the jig, which is a lot of fun. Once you learn to work on the jig be sure to go to www.wigjig.com they have everything jiggy - free tutorials = both video and step by step. Thus as anything you neecd to purchase to make the jewelry in Insprired Wire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired Wire, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Inspired Wire (Paperback)
Ms Wuller provides step by step instruction with excellent illustrations on the construction of jewelry using wire. Importantly, early chapters begin with simpler to construct pieces, whilst later chapters become increasingly intricate. Her efforts "inspired" me with my work in wire!
