Book Description

Linux October 5, 2000
The new kernel is big news in the Linux community. Although these revisions to the operating system have helped to make Linux more approachable to the masses, there are still unanswered questions. Written by an experienced Linux administrator, Install, Configure, and Customize Red Hat Linux X provides you with advice to help you work through trouble spots that this flavor of Linux is known for. Step-by-step, using 200 screenshots, this book takes you through installing and configuring Linux and then shows you how to customize Linux to suit your needs. This beginning through intermediate book is for users who have just downloaded or purchased Red Hat Linux. You don’t necessarily need to be new to Linux, but find the need for some expert instruction on deciphering Red Hat Linux.

1.0 out of 5 stars Write Topic...Wrong Book, February 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Install, Configure, and Customize Red Hat Linux 7 (Paperback)
A very poorly written book. When I followed one of the author's hints about installation, it resulted in an unstable system. The system is to be dual boot and the author simply said modify the lido.conf file - no examples given. The information I collected about my system was never used in the install. Red Hat does a great job. The author did not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Linux on desktops, September 12, 2002
This review is from: Install, Configure, and Customize Red Hat Linux 7 (Paperback)
It is great, it guides you step by step to have a desktop machine up and running fast.
Not too good for learning Linux Server administration, but to learn the basics needed to replace Windows on your desktop.
It includes good references to Linux standard documentation and images so you know what are you doing.
The best reference for Linux on Desktop.
