This should be a good book to get someone with a Windows background going on Linux - covers all the basics.

As a professional who is relatively new to Linux, I found this book to be a great help. It is perfect for anyone coming to Linux from a Windows, NetWare or Unix background. And its great coverage not only of installation but also scripts, shells, the vi editor and other tools means that I will continue to use this book as a reference for years to come.

I found the McKinnons' approach easy to use and broadly applicable. I can use what I learned here on all Linux distros!
