About the Author

Barbara Matthews ([e-mail]) is the founder and principal consultant at OnCallDBA, the Oracle Applications System Administration consultancy. As a recognized expert on taming Oracle's Concurrent Manager, Barbara wrote her first book, Administering Oracle Applications, (or, Herding Cats Made Easy), which established her reputation by sharing hard-won knowledge about the nuances of supporting Oracle Applications. Barbara collaborated with John Stouffer, Randy Giefer, and Karen Brownfield to write Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Oracle Applications 11i, (or, When Old Dogs Herd Cats - Release 11i Care and Feeding) in 2003.

John Stouffer ([e-mail]) co-chairs the Oracle Fusion Council, Oracle Applications User Group Upgrade Special Interest Group (SIG) as well as the OAUG Release 10.7/11.0/11i De-Support Focus Groups. He was selected as the International Oracle Applications User Group Member of the Year for 2004 and was a featured speaker at Oracle OpenWorld 2004, 2005, and 2006. John has presented papers and moderated panels at numerous local, regional, national, and international conferences for Oracle Applications users and support staff including DOUG, FWOUG, HOUG, Atl-OAUG, SROAUG, SCOAUG, NWOUG, MAOP, NEOAUG, OATS and NCOAUG conferences, Oracle AppsWorld, and numerous OAUG conferences for many years. He has over 18 years experience with Oracle database administration including more than 14 years supporting Oracle Applications environments including installation, implementations, upgrades, and system assessments. John is a Senior Applications Technologist, DBA, and Architect with Solution Beacon, LLC.

Randy Giefer ([e-mail]) has over 21 years of practical business experience in the Information Technology and systems integration arena, with experience in the Federal and local Government, Higher Education, energy, airline, mortgage banking, and automotive manufacturing industries. This business experience is coupled with over 8 years of experience in the implementation and administration of Oracle Financial (Commercial and Federal/Public Sector), COTS/GOTS, and Manufacturing software applications in the role of an Applications Database Administrator, Systems Architect and Security Architect. In addition to his Oracle Applications and Security experience, Randy has over 12 additional years of Oracle database development and administration. His project experience includes systems architecture, database architecture, security architecture, installation, upgrades, performance tuning, development, testing, database administration and production systems management. He is active in the Oracle community and is recognized as an industry expert, presenting at Oracle and OAUG conferences and workshops as well as chairing the OAUG SysAdmin SIG. In addition to performing consultant and management roles at prior companies, Randy is also the founder of Solution Beacon, LLC.

Karen Brownfield ([e-mail]) has 25+ years experience programming, installing, and managing applications used in various industries including Chemicals, Entertainment, Defense, Recruitment, and Hospitality. The past 11 years she has focused on Oracle Applications specializing in Financials and Workflow as functional specialist, programmer, team lead, and/or project manager. Karen is also a member of the OAUG board of directors, serving in multiple capacities in the last 10 years, including President, Past President, other Executive Committee roles, and has presented many papers and training sessions at the various OAUG and user group conferences locally, regionally, and internationally.

Jeff Holt ([e-mail]) is a Senior Technical Consultant and Oracle Database Administrator. He has more than 16 years experience in information technology and over 10 years of experience as a technical consultant and database administrator. He has extensive experience with the architecture and administration of Oracle's e-Business Suite applications. Jeff has provided technical expertise for numerous upgrades and installations including versions 9.x, 10.x, 10.7NCA, 11.0.x and 11.5.x. He also has experience with advanced options such as Real Application Clusters, Oracle Single Sign-on, firewall configuration, and reverse proxy servers. He has experience implementing and configuring internet applications using Apache, Oracle 9iAS, Java, Java servlets, and CGI programs. Jeff is an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Database Administrator and has served as a panel member on Oracle Applications 11i Upgrade panels at various OAUG conferences and workshops.

Bruno Coon ([e-mail]) is a Technical Consultant and Oracle Applications Database Administrator. He has over 25 years experience in working as a DBA and developer with Oracle databases and has extensive experience in database architecture, design, modeling, tuning, and PL/SQL programming. He has several years of experience as an Oracle Applications DBA.

James Morrow ([e-mail]) is a Senior Technical Consultant and Oracle Applications Database Administrator. He has over 15 years experience in the Information Technology industry including 12+ years as an Oracle Applications DBA and Unix Systems Administrator. He has extensive experience in systems architecture including installations, upgrades, and advanced configurations of Oracle's E-Business Suite applications. Mr. Morrow also has experience with a wide variety of operating systems and platforms, including every major variant of the UNIX operating system and on Microsoft Windows NT.

Tim Sharpe ([e-mail]) has over 15 years of experience in Information Technology and has worked with various Oracle systems, tools and concepts. He has served as data base administrator, developer, system architect, technical manager with his primary focus on reporting, Business Intelligence, system integration and web enabled interfaces. Tim has worked with Oracle Applications for the past 7 years and has been involved in implementations, upgrades and development of advanced reporting solutions. This book appears to be out of date as of my purchase date of Jan 2009 as it only covers 11i Oracle apps with literally no mention of 12i release. Additionally, I found a myriad of mistakes in the book's print (incorrect names for Oracle performance tools, etc). These mistakes and inconsistencies left me questioning the accuracy of much of the material as, like many other readers attempting to learn the complexities of Oracle 11i apps, I may not "know what I don't know" to be true.

Overall, there are so many other 11i Oracle Apps books out there, I think there are better choices.
