5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Tool for Gamemasters (for Both the D6 and D20 Systems), March 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Instant Adventures (Star Wars RPG) (Paperback)
Star Wars Instant Adventures is a great supplement for the West End Games (WEG) version of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game (RPG). It outlines 9 general scenarios (with 3-5 "episodes" each) that can be used in virtually any Star Wars RPG campaign. They are designed for the D6 system, but I think they could easily be adapted to the newer D20 game. These adventures are not 100% fleshed out (i.e., you will still need to use your imagination and make some stuff as you go along), but there is enough there to make the Gamemaster's life pretty easy (I'd say you'll easily get 20-30 hours of adventures out of it).

All scenarios come with maps, diagrams, and/or player handouts to help move the game along, and to allow players to better visualize the setting/situation. Scenarios also contain game stats for all major and minor non-player characters, and some tips that should make running the adventures a little easier. One of the more interesting features of this book is the 32 color references cards included at the end of the book (these are designed to be removed from the book, so you might want to make sure they are included in the copy you are thinking of buying -- there should be four thick cardstock pages at the back of the book, and each page can be separated into eight different cards along a series of perforated edges). Many of the pictures are pretty cheesy by today's standards, but some are still usable, and most will likely provide you with some good ideas about cards you might create on your own. Still a very good idea and worth having if you ask me.

In sum, there are some high quality ideas in this book, and it is designed to be very flexible. You can use the scenarios/episodes as is, or pick and choose just the parts you like. I'm sure most GMs prefer to come up with adventures on their own. But, if you ever find yourself running short of time, if your players sometimes want to take a path that you didn't anticipate, or if you need a kernel of an idea that you can grow into your own unique adventure, I think you'll find this book to be very helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars D6 Adventures, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Instant Adventures (Star Wars RPG) (Paperback)
Good compilation of basic scenarios for those who are gaming somewhat informally. It's a good starter, which is why I purchased it. It's based on the D6 version instead of the D20 version but I don't have too much trouble with that for basic gaming.
