Instant anatomy is a revolutionary concept in anatomy books. If you've tried to look up the course of an artery or nerve in one of today's anatomy textbooks, you've found that the details are spread over several sections. 'Instant Anatomy' traces the route of arteries, veins, nerves, and lymphatics. It also tells you where muscles arise, where they insert, what they do and which nerves control them. It should be used in conjunction with one of the fuller textbooks of anatomy, but will appeal to undergraduate medical students and prospective surgeons who are studying for the first part of the higher degree in surgery. It will also be extremely useful for clinicians who need to remind themselves of anatomical facts at all stages of their careers, and for paramedical groups such as physiotherapists and radiographers.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"... so we welcome a new edition of this useful reference book. It will remain popular with both students and with surgical postgraduates"

Journal of Anatomy - 2000

"This is a concise well-written short text of anatomy that is easy to follow..."

Journal of the Royal College of Surgeons - Oct 2000

"As a quick revision reference for both undergraduates and postgraduates ... I would still recommend it."

BJS - 00

"Any attempt to summarize the human anatomy in 200 pages of little more than A5 size is an achievement in itself. That it should be clearly written and well-illustrated indeed deserves congratulation." BJS/2000

"This is quite different from other anatomy textbooks. It is based on schematic diagrams with minimal text and is ideal as a revision aid or for quick reference." Aslib book guide/August 2000

"Numerous anatomy textbooks have been written, and personal preference plays a big part in the choice of a textbook. However, there is one book that most agree is essential for learning anatomy, and that is Instant Anatomy. It is clear, concise, and contains all the relevant information for the medical course. Rather than having to crawl through textbooks when all you wanted to know was the exact origin of pectoralis major or the branches of the radial artery, using Instant Anatomy gives instant access to all this information and more"

- GKT Gazette

"Instant Anatomy is, without doubt, the finest book ever written: I would swap my sister for it...Seriously though, this is a very cheeky little book. It does claim to be unique, and I think it is fair to say that, as a quick revision aid, it is unrivalled. The pictures are simple and ingenious ; so much so that one wonder's why nobody has written a book like this before."

- Murmur, the official publication of the University of Cambridge Medical Society --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description

Indispensable dip-in revision aidInstant Anatomy is quite different from other anatomy books available. It presents the fundamental anatomical information needed for clinical practice in an easily accessible dip-in format. Each topic is concisely displayed in a double-page spread to provide a unique anatomical approach across systems. This logical and intuitive approach emphasizes the anatomical relationships needed for cross sectional scanning and computer generated reconstructional imaging. It allows structures such as blood vessels and nerves to be seen in their entirety instead of regionally as they are so often described in standard textbooks. This edition has been updated and expanded to include more on the foramina chapter. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent visual based learning, May 2, 2004
By

This review is from: Instant Anatomy (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for those who are keen on visual based learning. It is not an adequate substitute for a text or a proper atlas, but it's great for just before the test sorta crammin'. I studied under Whitaker, and he is by far one of the best Anatomical teachers I have ever seen as far as graphically based learning/teaching is concerned. If you're reading this Dr. Whitaker, publish more of the sketches you use during lectures! None of the diagrams actually look directly like their anatomical representatives, but that's irrelevant. The main emphasis is on connections and relationships, as opposed to direct identification. A must have! It's so good that I've already had two copies stolen from me! Obviously, it's a big hit with other students as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for cranial nerves, April 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Instant Anatomy (Paperback)
I started using this book when we started the head and neck section in my anatomy class and I was hooked. To learn the cranial nerves it was the best. I memorized the pathways of each nerve and was completely set for the exam. I even refer to it now once in a while in my neuroanatomy course. I wish I would have used it through the entire course because it has some great sections on the arteries and nerves to simplify things and it's great to find a condensed resource where you can see all the muscles a particular nerve innervates. Also, the muscle charts were great as a review before the NBME subject test. I know that I will continue to use this book for a long time after first year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anatomy at your fingertips, October 3, 2007
This review is from: Instant Anatomy (Paperback)
This is a great book for quick reference. I use it A LOT when trying to visualize the path a specific artery or nerve runs. It is a great reference for diagramming things. I find I learn best when I draw things out -- this book helps you get the basics down.
