I bought two of these for my girlfriend for Christmas. Since she has a small kitchen with very little counter space and also had no cutting boards, it seemed like the perfect solution. She has used one of them consistently, leaving it over the unused burners while using the uncovered burners and the oven. This has worked well until today, when she was using an adjacent burner and the item literally exploded, sending shards of glass all over her kitchen. She was lucky enough to have walked away from the stove just before it happened; if she had been standing in front of the stove, she would have been seriously injured. Since the item is made of tempered glass, we thought it should be able to withstand indirect heat; she has never placed it directly over a recently used stove burner, and always puts a potholder underneath a hot item when placing it on the glass. While this item can still be useful in other ways, the buyer should beware that it is NOT SAFE for consistent use near hot burners.

When I bought this, the clear see-thru glass covers were not available on Amazon so got one of these black ones. Although the black "marble" pattern looks great on top of a black enamel range top, I'm not thrilled that it is just a piece of sticky-type paper pasted to the underside of the glass cover. Also, after using it for a few months, the leg rings show through the "marble" patterned paper thru the glass surface.

It is serving the purpose of keeping half the stove somewhat splash-proof from cooking pots and provides a heat-proof flat surface for cookie sheets or casseroles out of the oven. A lot easier to clean the glass cover surface than all those nooks and crannies on the range top itself.

I thought about getting two of these but then I have no place to store one when I have to lift one off to use a burner. Just one is fine and still looks nice on the range. As good as this cover looks, I may go with a clear see-thru glass if ever I need another because the paper bottom on this one has little nicks and chips on the underside already. I dislike this sticky paper technology being used on glass cutting boards because heat, moisture and general use eventually erodes the paper off the glass.

Oh my god the same thing happened to me today. If you would like to research legal action please contact me rolopark@yahoo.com. I'm in so much shock and have taken many photos of the completely dangerous explosion. The item is supposed to be tempered glass, there were no burners on and while I was standing next to the stove washing dishes the glass shattered and spread out as far as 7 feet away. A tiny shard went into my hand and cut it and the pieces are still popping and cracking like popcorn. I called customer service and as I explained my shock and horror and asked if she thought it was acceptable to sell a product that already has comments on the website (since I purchased the item) about it's danger, she said absolutely and offered me a replacement!!

I really like the idea of being able to use my stove top as countertop. I Purchased two of these and they cover my stove top well, however, they don't quite fit exactly. I would imagine all stoves are different in size. They work well enough, but I expected them to be heat tolerant to a certain degree and while my oven was on, one of the feet melted. :/ It is still usable, but I guess you'll have to remove them any time there is any type of heat. The oven vents near the stove top and was apparently too hot. At any rate, they work well for the purpose of having more counter space. Thank you.

I have a restaurant-style stove with six burners and a griddle. The griddle is in between pairs of burners and has a stainless-steel cover. When I cook, I like to place a glass cutting board over the griddle section to provide a place for utensils and pre-measured ingredients, and also to keep spatters off the stainless surface. I had never been able to find a glass cutting board with the right proportions -- either too short (front to back) or if long enough, too wide. So I ordered the Instant Counter Tempered Glass Cutting Board. It was a much better length (covers all but an inch of that stainless griddle cover), however the rather tall legs defeated the purpose of spatter protection. But I found they were very easy to remove. I used a paint scraper (little plastic tool that holds a single-edge razor blade) to get under the adhesive ring around the legs. Once you see the thin adhesive start to lift, you can tilt the leg with your fingers, and off it pops (then a wipe with alcohol and a couple more flat scrapes with the razor). I replaced the legs with small, peel-n-stick, silicone pads.

UPDATE:
One night while cooking dinner, this glass cutting board literally exploded! There was a very loud bang (I was standing about five feet away), and small pieces of the glass shot as far as ten feet all over the kitchen. The stove burners were off; there was a recently-cooked steak on the glass; nothing else was sitting on it; the event was completely unpredictable and might have caused injury if someone had been closer. The pieces were crumbly but quite sharp, unlike broken automobile glass. I found a couple references online to this kind of occurrence. Apparently, tempered glass can have minute inclusions of metal or debris that can result in spontaneous shattering even years after manufacture.
