It's a compact guide - perfect.
The illustrations and information in this beautiful book are just perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Yes, there are bigger more comprehensive guides out there, but as the description of this book says - it's compact and is a guide to commonly found shells. It fits in any bag with ease, not too heavy, and being a hardback it doesn't get damaged in transit. Great...

Not the greatest shell guide
This book is pretty skimpy as shell guides go. Instead, I highly recommend Kenneth Wye's "The Encyclopedia of Shells," which I purchased after being disappointed with this one.

The illustrations and information in this beautiful book are just perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Yes, there are bigger more comprehensive guides out there, but as the description of this book says - it's compact and is a guide to commonly found shells. It fits in any bag with ease, not too heavy, and being a hardback it doesn't get damaged in transit. Great gift for someone who travels, likes shells, or has a beginning level interest in shells.
Each page is gorgeous, and includes a distribution and habitat map, color coded segments of identification info, and the book is divided into easy to define sections. You can't lose here.
