Better than avaerage but could be better!, June 21, 2002
This album contains benchmark chillout acts (available on all chillout albums) such as, Kinobe, Zero7, Ibizarre, Morcheeba and Groove Armada to make buyers comfortable knowing that this album would be okay at the very least. It then mixes in some popular artists to increase sales such as The Doors, Bjork, William Orbit and Madonna. Finally it adds the most cliched and over-used Classical songs from popular artists such as Mozart and Chopin etc.
So why the hell did i buy it, well this album is slightly more sophisticated in its approach as it adds songs from great (and often under-used) artists such as Coldcut, Leftfield, Goldfrapp and Talvin Singh as well as soundtracks from movies like 'American Beauty'.
If this was to be a five star album it has to put all the classical tracks onto disc1 and all the dance/ modern tracks onto the other disc because listening to Beethoven straight after Talvin Singh is wierd! Also the following artists most definatley need to be added, cue- Bonobo, Bent, Cujo, Kid Loco, Faze Action, Portishead, Nitin Sawhney, Niraj Chag and maybe even Belle & Seb instead of Lambchop!
Its not gonna happen and if it did it wouldn't sell well. Anyway the best tracks on this lp are Badalmenti's 'Twin Peaks' and the tracks by Leftfield, Goldfrapp, Bjork, Talvin Singh, Howie B and Morcheeba.
