Classic Rock/Disco,
By Mercedes "Truth Will Never Be Popular" (Right Next To You) - See all my reviews

i heard sound clips of this album from another website and i liked what i heard. i can tell by some of the tracks that Dan Hartman was influenced by the group "Wild Cherry" ("Chocolate Box", anyone?)and the fact that it's "A Tom Moulton Mix" is even better. to the record company that released this... PLEASE REMASTER THIS ALBUM! it needs it. i don't mean that in a put down way but rather that it's so good that a classic such as this should get the proper treatment.(extra tracks, pics, etc) ok i'm done. Thank You :)

Dancing in the late 1970s,

Instant Replay was a huge disco and chart hit in 1978. The album is one of the famous Tom Moulton mixes. With its catchy hook, bubbly optimism and full instrumental mix, the title track set the dance floors ablaze. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to the promise of the hit. The long medley Countdown/This Is It was another dancefloor hit. It has some brilliant sax solos by Edgar Winter and some tuneful moments, especially in the second, This Is It part. Double-O-Love and Chocolate Box have a rock influence, while Love Is A Natural is an undistinguished disco ballad. The album concludes with Time And Space, a beautiful old style pop ballad with rousing vocals and a memorable tune. The album is pleasant enough overall but contains nothing outstanding besides the title track. Dan Hartman will always be remembered for Instant Replay, one of the most popular hits of 1978 in the golden age of disco.

This was a favorite of mine for many years. Dan Hartman was such a talented musician and unfortunately had his life and career cut much too short. I can only imagine what he could have done had he been given more time. The negative is that if this CD was remastered digitally the sound just is not up to par compared to CD's remastered and recorded today.

Rewarding!,

The title cut of this LP is hard edged, funky disco at it'sprime and has aged very well over the years. But two aggresive, grooving funk-rock pieces "Chocolate Box" with it's strong Wild Cherry-like arrangement and the tight "Double O' Love" are NOT to be missed."Love Is Such A Natural Feeling" has the same overall effect as the title song and overall this record throws back to the golden grooves of the late 1970's!

Being unfamiliar with Mr. Harman's material, I took a chance on "Instant Replay." I must agree with some of the others that his music was pretty good. Catchy beats, phrasing, and melody. Danceable material. If you can get a copy for a good price, I recommend this collection, as a start to introduce yourself to the music of Dan Hartman. Four stars!!

Disco had lots of stars with lots of records so it's hard to pick one that's #1 but this is it!A tour de force of disco and music which will have you longing for the seventies again.Check out Time and Space an often overlooked lil gem

pretty good,

i use to hear Dan hartman jams back in the day and this collection is pretty good, but the money cut is the title cut. Instant Replay the cut that just stands out and it is still a cut that you can still Groove to. Hartman understood Groove and vibe and that is what got his stuff over. this is a pretty good collection and you will feel the Groove.

Gone, But The Music Lives On,
By

Instant Replay, which I first bought on vinyl in 1978, was and is one of the five best disco albums ever produced. Dan Hartman who wrote, produced, co-engineered, and played all of the instruments on most of the LP's songs, was and remains, one of music's great talents. You'll find that this CD will provide a timeless upbeat background for any party you choose to make better. Double O Love is an awesome track. In the words of Dan, when asked about that track said, "I was listening to, too much Parliment that week"! Have to love his honesty, and humble representation of his amazing musical talent. Chocolate Box is timeless. Instant Replay is still played at dance clubs all over the world. I like the CD better than the vinyl, though the large LP jacket makes a great wall piece.

this will be very quick as i bought this cd for one song.love is a natural is a great example of disco, with shrieking swirling string arrangements, a popping bass line and a searing vocal by a male artist that knew what he was doing. i'm glad i found it after steve dahl tried to blow up all the wonderful songs that make up disco. as for the rest, it's anyone's guess. |
