I recently visited two childrens orphanages in Hincesti & Chisinau, Moldova (where the children speak Romanian) and this was the only book that was a tremendous help to me! The common phrases are written in English, then Romanian, then written phonically. Just being able to say simple words like "Hello" "Beautiful" & "See you later" made the world of difference and brought so many smiles to their faces! I highly recommend this book!

It took a while for Amazon to find this book and ship it to me ... but when it did arrive, I immediately fell in love with it. Finally, a fresh approach to the Romanian language! Although most of the phrases can't be used in normal (adult) conversation (I can't think of many occasions when I might want to tell an adult: "it's OK, don't cry."), it's a wonderful and fun exploration of the simplicity of the language.

After all, I guess kids start with these kinds of phrases when they're first learning to speak. So why not start there myself? Most of the other language books I've bought cater to the student (with phrases dealing with college life) or to the tourist (with phrases dealing with travel). This book was just about talking to someone (a child) who needs love and affection.

Great idea. My advice: BUY the book. I just wish Teri Doolittle had a volume 2.

This book has been a life saver. My husband and I got accepted to move to Romania to work with the children born to Street Children. We had such a hard time finding help with the Romanian language and an even harder time finding the words you would want to say to children. Most guides are just there to help you get comfortable with the languarge so you can get around cities and travel through the country. This was tailored to our needs and we go no where without it. The breakdown of the language helped as well. The only thing to improve it would be a phonetic spelling beside each word. Thank you so much for this guide and keeping it up to date. We're forever indebted to you, Teri Doolittle!

This book is easy to navigate. Romanian is a language that requires more than the written word. I purchased this book on a whim, didn't really need to learn the language, just a hobby look. I would suggest this as a support material, but if you REALLY want to learn, or NEED to learn the language, get some form of a program that will give you audio instruction as well.

There is something childlike in learning a new language, and so it seems only appropriate to have a guide to the language by a mother. The simple, everyday phrases that permit you to interact with your new friends are covered here, just as a mother orients her child.
Difficult to master phrases and expressing thoughts that will retain the attention of someone older than 3 or 4 will require that sooner or later, you will need more extensive training and audio help. Maintaining enough interest in a second childhood is the larger problem, and it helps to at least know the words you need everyday.
