To some people, INSTANT STAR 2 may be just one more entry into the glamour girl pop rock genre, but the big difference here is that Canadian rocker Alexz Johnson is a bit of a phenom that entirely deserves to be heard. While some of the entries here may be easily dismissed as middleground rock ("Liar Liar," "There's Us"), there are more entries ("How I Feel," "Over-rated," "White Lines") that have terrific composition, outstanding vocals, and greater relevence than most of what you're hearing from other rock wannabes. "How Strong Do You Think I Am" is a particularly strong track, and "My Sweet Time" could easily stand the test of time to be one of Alexz Johnson's greatest hits. These songs are catchy, memorable, and -- dare I say it -- quite darn good.

If there's any weakness here, it could be that a few of the tunes sound a bit too close to what other performers in Johnson's caliber (i.e. Avril Lavinge comes to mind) are penning. Looking beyond that, however, Johnson imbues these songs with an almost 'timelessness' that only great rock songs possess ... and I'm quite certain that the test of time will only bear out great things for this one 'Instant Star.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Instat Star 3, Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, April 17, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Instant Star 2 (Audio CD)
First off, Alexz's voice is absolutely amazing. One of the reasons I love Instant Star is because of her talent. Her voice, song-writing ability, and appearance are awesome. Compared to the first IS album, this one kind of sucks. That's what I thought at first at least. After a couple listens i've fallen in love with this new style. These songs are more slowed down, and have more piano it seems.

1.Liar Liar-Eerie, mellow intro to the album. I like the faded voice, and the chorus by far! "Tell me you love me like a star" 5/5

2.How Strong Do You Think I Am-First single. It's growing on me fast! 5/5

3.Anyone But You-Pretty fast track. Another one that grows on me. 4.5/5

4.How I Feel-Not my favorite. I don't reallly know, but i just dont like it. Like I do, but I dont. 3/5

5.There's Us-Some parts I like, some I don't. Alot like 'How I Feel'. I lovethe chorus "Not everything is supposed to come true" 3.5/5

6.Over Rated-Yea the title kind of explains itself. Other people like it, but it's too poppish for me. My least favorite on the album. 1/5

7.Natural Disaster-LOVE IT!!! The music is different, and wow the lyrics are awesoe aao the album. 100/5

8.Fade To Black-Another favorite. So cool! 5/5

9.Another Thin Line-Also another favorite!! It reminds me of 'That Girl' from the first album, but faster. 5/5

10.Not Standing Alone-Pretty good song, could be way better but I like it. 4/5

11.My Sweet Time-Wow!! Talk about maturing form the first cd. It had to grow on me, but wow it's great!! 5/5

12.Who Am I Fooling-Reminds me of Jakalope. Good, but i'lhaftu grow on me. 3.5/5

13.White Lines-Slow, good way to end the album. 4/5

TOP 3:
Natural Disaster
Another Thin Line
Liar Liar

BOTTOM 3:
There's Us
How I Feel
Over Rated

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Hit, April 6, 2006
This review is from: Instant Star 2 (Audio CD)
Instant Star features real life singer/songwriter/actress Alexz Johnson as Jude Harrison striving to make it in the music industry after winning a songwriting contest.

Alexz is an amazing singer and her vocals on this cd just blow me away. She's 19 and has the voice of an angel. I highly recommend this cd, not only to Instant Star Fans or fans of Alexz when she was Disney's So Weird, but to anyone who appreciates talent when they hear it.

The first "Instant Star" soundtrack was also a great cd, but I think this one may actually be better than the first one. The tracks on this cd show of Alexz Johnson's vocal range even better than the first album did. While there were good songs on the first one, I think there are some even better ones on this cd such as "Liar Liar", "Who Am I Fooling?", "There's Us", "Anyone But You" and more. I recommend this cd to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars And I'll Have Another Please, April 4, 2006
This review is from: Instant Star 2 (Audio CD)
Just like the first soundtrack, this CD is amazing. The talent of Alexz Johnson combined with the talents of her brother and the writers, producers, and musicians behind the show bring us yet another wonderful array of music. Not a single song can be skipped.
I'm excited to see what will come with Season 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Success, September 30, 2006

The fact that Alexz Johnson fails to get recognition for her work on "Instant Star" is a shame, because not only is she a fabulous actress, she is also an extremely talented singer. I fell in love with her fist CD, but somehow Alexz managed to make an even more amazing second season soundtrack. After the first track ended I thought to myself, "Wow, this is outstanding." She continues the trend of mixing Ashlee Simpson with Avril Lavigne type songs, and it works. She has this hard rock/pop sound and her vocals are stunning. She has a very expressive voice and hits some really high notes effortlessly. If you enjoyed her first album, you will love this one just as much, if not even more.

I enjoy all the songs, but my favorites are "Liar Liar," "How Strong Do You Think I Am," "Anyone But You," "There's Us," "Over-Rated," "Fade To Black," "Another Thin Line," and "White Lines." Umm, that's more than half-album. And the remainder of the songs are great as well too.

I think what I love most about the album are the lyrics. I easily relate to each song, whether its about pining for love, falling out of love, breaking up, making up, or simply enjoying life. Each song connects with me, and I feel like Alexz gets me.

I hope people realize this is much more than a TV soundtrack. Alexz should be a true star, because unlike all the untalented, mainstream pop bimbos out there, Alexz has actual talent. I eagerly wait for the third season of her amazing show to start, and look forward to hearing new music from her in the future.

Good job Alexz, you've put out a truly outstanding album. Props.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alexz Johnson Delivers Again, April 8, 2006

Wow, I ordered this CD and it arrived, I stuck it in my CD player, and the next thing I knew I was listening to it all day. Alexz Johnson doesn't fail to surprise me with her music, shes just so great and her voice is very unique, it's not too high pitched and not to low, it's in the perfect range. Part of watching the show "Instant Star" is finding out what new song AJ will come out with, as well as the entertainment that the show provides, i'd have to say my favorite songs on the disc are "How Strong Do You Think I Am?" which is more on the rockish side, she shows very strong emotion when she sings this song, "Over-rated" is a excellent song as well, it gives off that more rebelious side which isn't surprising considering in the show, they had Jude Harrison play the song when she was trying to prove that shes not just another blonde, spoiled singer, "Fade To Black" immedietly got itself in the top five category, this song is just so great, the lyrics are simple but effective and it gives off this vibe, like you'd expect to see the song in a Thriller film, it gives off some sort of dread but in a fun way, it's weird, but this is one of my favorites for sure, I love the short music video they provided for it on the show in which it showed Jude daydreaming and shes running around trying to escape all the things tormenting her and she finds her friend stabbed with a steak, she finds Tommy being bitten by Vampires, it's just really great, they also play the song when Jude and her friend decide that its best if they dont' hang out with each other, at least not for a while, so it definetly confirms my thinking it gives off the dread vibe. "Not Standing Alone" is a fun, inspirational song: (Here are some lyrics from the beginning of the song): "I'd go right now, if the earth can find my feet, I would run away and go where I know, but you don't even care, no you don't even care, what's fair, i'm not standing around, i'm not standing alone...", then from there and on, it gets a fast, rockish pace, it's definetly inspirational or get's you into the "Want to do more than my ability" mood. Now, finally another big favorite of mine is "My Sweet Time", it's one of the first songs to have premiered for the second season and it has the rock n' roll, crazy style to it, even Alexz rocks out while performing to it, it's a song you can dance to. Have fun with it.

Those are the songs that stand out the most but all the songs are awesome and unique in there own way, it definetly sings about how people feel in real life, worth every buck and its the kind of CD that you can listen to over and over and over again. Oh and watch the show too, it'll definetly make you have a bigger appreciation for the music and the episodes are great, not your average TV show, shows you the life of the music industry and how an artist deals with it. Extremely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Officially My Favorite Singer, September 17, 2006

After hearing the second album from Instant Star, I've decided that Alexz Johnson is now my favorite singer. She has an amazing voice and there's so much feeling in it, especially when she sings ballads. I loved all the songs from this CD, especially "Liar, Liar," "White Lines," and "There's Us." If you're a fan of her music, this album is a must have. Even if you aren't, but you like pop rock, you should check this cd out. Alexz Johnson is way more talented than all those starlets who try to act and sing ::cough Hilary Duff cough:: I play this cd all the time and I would definitely recommend it. I'll continue to buy her music as long as she keeps making it.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALEXZ JOHNSON!!!, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Instant Star 2 (Audio CD)
Wow...every song on this CD is amazing! She is by far the best female singer I have ever heard. (For her age...) Way better than Britney, Christina, Nelly Furtado, and all those people. If you like the show, then you MUST own this CD!! If you have never seen the show, you are in for a big surpise!! You won't skip a single track. This is for anyone who likes female rock/pop music, who likes the show, who likes music!!
