November 1992
In a gunfight, where lost time can result in lost life, checking your sight picture is about the worst thing you can do. Instinct shooting exchanges luck for skill, honing the natural tendency to focus your eyes on the threat and combining it with learned, accurate pistol control.

1.0 out of 5 stars An outdated magazine article, July 3, 2004

This review is from: Instinct Combat Shooting: Defensive Handgunning For Police And Personal Protection (Paperback)
This book is based on a magazine article Klein wrote in 1971, that was published in a police trade magazine. This background is evident as you read this book. First, there is much less content in this book than you would expect, based on the page count of the book. Second, the information presented seems to be far more outdated than you would expect, based on the publishing year of the book.

Although the book has over 40 pages, there really is not that much text: The pages are small and the text is printed in a large font. There are several pictures that take the whole page and there is no other text other than caption on the page. And besides that, there are several totally blank pages between chapters. So, the total amount of text would have fitted in ten pages or so, had the font been smaller and the pages larger.

As you would guess, the text is not very detailed, rather the author tries to cover all aspects of the issue in a very hurried manner. There are chapters in ammunition selection, proper stocks the gun should have and so on, but the author assumes that the reader has some previous handgun shooting experience, as he does not cover the shooting basics in the book. As the author covers every aspect only very superficially, the reader don't have a chance to learn anything from this book. The author even fails to give a proper reasoning for using point shooting.

I think this book is a waste of money. There are far better books on point shooting around than this.
