KAVANA GETS INSTINCTIVELY BETTER, July 31, 2001
This review is from: Instinct (Audio CD)
This follow up to Kavana's debut CD definitely has a touch of class. 'Special Kind of Something' features some great guitar work and was the natural one to kick-start the young star's UK chart chase with this album. 'Funky Love' has a great summer feel about it and was one of the best records for that season in '98. Three other tracks on this CD stand out above the remainder; 'If I Fall' and 'I Believe' give him the chance to utilise perhaps more of his vocal range than he normally would and the latter, again, has a summer feel about it. The song's bridge also encompasses a distinct 'jazzy' sound. By far the best offering on this CD is the cut, 'Will You Wait For Me?', Kavana's 3rd UK release from the album. Featuring meaningful lyrics and a first class string arrangement, it again showcases his ability to stretch himself in order to achieve perfection. This song (Eric Kupper's S-Boy Radio Mix) is available separately as a CD single, featuring the same vocals over a much faster track. It's a shame this track isn't on the album. 'Absolute' (the instrumentalists) contribute 100% to this CD and it's great to see the talented Tracy Ackerman adding her own distinctive backing vocals. The one disappointment with this CD is that several press reports stated just prior to the CDs release that it would be delayed because Kavana's duet with Lulu, called 'Heart Like The Sun' was to be included, however, I can't find it on the CD!! Apart from this one glitch, the CD is faultless and provideds Kavana with the opportunity to convey a more soulful, mature sound. Despite his rising success in Asia and the European markets, this home grown talent needs to be promoted more in the UK.

HOT!!, October 24, 2000
This review is from: Instinct (Audio CD)
Yes, this CD is an import and thus pricey, but you know what? Its worth it! Kavana had started out by being an icon for gay British men, but has since then moved on to bigger audiences. His single, on this disc, called 'Funky Love' is one of the most hip things I've heard in a while. Its funny how Kavana couldn't get 'Instinct' to cross over to the States, as the album is excellent and so worth it! Get this one, quick!

Im talking about both Kavana and his music. =) this album is really great. My favorite of the album is the first 4, especially "Special kind of something". If you like ballads with a little mix here and there, you should try Kavana..
