KAVANA GETS INSTINCTIVELY BETTER,
By robs@gibraltarian.com (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Instinct (Audio CD)
This follow up to Kavana's debut CD definitely has a touch of class. 'Special Kind of Something' features some great guitar work and was the natural one to kick-start the young star's UK chart chase with this album. 'Funky Love' has a great summer feel about it and was one of the best records for that season in '98. Three other tracks on this CD stand out above the remainder; 'If I Fall' and 'I Believe' give him the chance to utilise perhaps more of his vocal range than he normally would and the latter, again, has a summer feel about it. The song's bridge also encompasses a distinct 'jazzy' sound. By far the best offering on this CD is the cut, 'Will You Wait For Me?', Kavana's 3rd UK release from the album. Featuring meaningful lyrics and a first class string arrangement, it again showcases his ability to stretch himself in order to achieve perfection. This song (Eric Kupper's S-Boy Radio Mix) is available separately as a CD single, featuring the same vocals over a much faster track. It's a shame this track isn't on the album. 'Absolute' (the instrumentalists) contribute 100% to this CD and it's great to see the talented Tracy Ackerman adding her own distinctive backing vocals. The one disappointment with this CD is that several press reports stated just prior to the CDs release that it would be delayed because Kavana's duet with Lulu, called 'Heart Like The Sun' was to be included, however, I can't find it on the CD!! Apart from this one glitch, the CD is faultless and provideds Kavana with the opportunity to convey a more soulful, mature sound. Despite his rising success in Asia and the European markets, this home grown talent needs to be promoted more in the UK.

HOT!!,

Yes, this CD is an import and thus pricey, but you know what? Its worth it! Kavana had started out by being an icon for gay British men, but has since then moved on to bigger audiences. His single, on this disc, called 'Funky Love' is one of the most hip things I've heard in a while. Its funny how Kavana couldn't get 'Instinct' to cross over to the States, as the album is excellent and so worth it! Get this one, quick!

Im talking about both Kavana and his music. =) this album is really great. My favorite of the album is the first 4, especially "Special kind of something". If you like ballads with a little mix here and there, you should try Kavana..

New Kavana sounds!,

Kavana said; "My album (INSTINCT) means 4 words; Interesting, Instinct true, God & Different" He challenged different sounds, style and images on this album. For example, !st single "Special Kind Of Something" is new sound for Kav, with acoustic guiters. 2nd single "Funky Love" makes wanna dance. And 3rd single "Will You Wait For Me" is big ballad song he's never done with strings big orcestra. I recommend this album. You can find his different images on this album!

Kav's Come Back (Instinct),

Well it's all "Smiles" for Kav on this album...Kav's done it again, yet another fantastic album and with his silky smooth vocals and talent beyond his years Kav's got it all (Not To Mention Good Looks...AS WELL). Not only is this album full of luxury pop tunes that'll keep ur head buppin', but some authentic, soppy ballads that are far from cheesy. Not to mention that kavana wrote most of the material himself which adds to the sound...Did I mention He Looks Good? The opening track "Special Kind Of Something" Will knock your socks off with it's fantastic arrangement of toe tappin guitars and cool as ice vocals from the Kav...It's my fav song on the album. Not only that, but the Fantastic "Will You Waite For Me" that went straight to the top ten in the U.K gives the album that classic pop feel that Kavana so greatly pulls off.

Kavana Has a Special Kind of Something,
By Tom "Tom" (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews

The steamy cover photo showcases his quietly sexy good looks, and some people may be persuaded to dismiss him as just another pretty face with minimal talent. But those of us who have heard Kavana's remarkable voice know better! What's more, singing isn't his only contribution; he has written most of the material on his second album, "Instinct".This time around, Kavana's silky and seductive vocals are laid over oftentimes more complex instrumentation than was on his last album, although it's not quite complex enough to take attention away from his voice. "Special Kind Of Something" is a great opening track, letting you know that you're in for an album's worth of good listening. "Just The Way It Is" has to be my favorite on this disc, with its spunky, funky attitude. "Thank You" is another of the breezy, uplifting numbers found on this collection, with "Will You Wait For Me" being an outstanding ballad. Although I love both of his albums, I would have to recommend this CD to first-time Kavana listeners. Anyone who likes Ronan Keating or Stephen Gately would find Kavana to be a welcome addition to their CD collection!

...I figured what they heck. I finally got my copy and Kavana it's just great! He has a very lovely voice and my favorite song that really touched a chord in me is "Will You Wait For Me." It's about someone you love who dies and how much it hurts. ...If you buy one CD this year, this one is it!

You are not the only US Kav fan,

I purchased this cd quite a while ago after buying his debut cd. I was completely overwelmed by his singing and writing style. I will admit that this one was much better than the first. (Hard to say that about most sophomore attempts). The string sessions one "WILL YOU WAIT FOR ME" were incredible. Also adding the Enhanced portion was even better. I enjoyed listening to the dance mix version, as well as the interview he gave. It gave a great insight to what he is planning in the future, as well as what he is all about. I would like to see more Kavana fans in the US. Why should the UK have all the fun!Cheers
