4.0 out of 5 stars Great but not quite essential., March 25, 2005

This review is from: Instinct and Obsession (Audio CD)
To start let me say that I am new to Sadis Euphoria and I don't know any of their other material. I heard one song and decided to buy this when I saw it at a local cd store. I can't say I was disappointed.

Sadis Euphoria play a nice blend of death and grind. The drums are what you'd expect, a lot of blasting, but not to the point where it gets annoying (like krisiun, hate eternal). Guitar work is suitable for this type of music, the riffs don't stand out all that much though. One good aspect of this album is that the bass is very audible, much more so than most deathgrind releases. The vocals are also very cool, they are mostly of the low gurgling type where you can't understand it even if you're reading the lyrics at the same time. The vocals are very entertaining to me because at many parts I honestly think the singer sound like an angry and constipated pig. You know it's deathgrind when this sort of comment is a compliment.

The overall strength of this album is the sound that these guys have created, it's not the most original thing in the world but it sounds great, especially because of the bass being high in the mix. Some parts of the album are also different from what you expect, there are a few ambient and acoustic bits on here to keep things interesting. The songs themselves aren't all that memorable, I am trying to think of them right now and I can't. That may just be that it is the type of album that takes a lot of listens to get it into your head, i dont know.

Ultimately this isn't the sort of album that is going to be regarded as groundbreaking or top of the genre, but I like it a lot. It's not an album that you can't live without, but it's definitely worth buying.
