A surprisingly good soundtrack
I wasn't thinking of purchasing this soundtrack at all when I came across it here on Amazon, but after reading the other reviews, I thought it sounded like it might be pretty good. I already had Mighty Joe Young, which is really good as well, and this sounded like it might be kinda' like that. I didn't expect it to be better. But after getting it and listening to...

A surprising score!
Danny Elfman, the Man. His remarkable talent continue to prouve that HE is one of the best Composer in his generation. It's not his Best score, but it's far better and Different than his recent 'A Simple Plan' score. It's a SOFT and CALM music and enjoyable to listen. Track 7 (Escape) is the best piece in this CD. But, there are a Bad point in this score, it's too short...

A surprisingly good soundtrack, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Instinct: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I wasn't thinking of purchasing this soundtrack at all when I came across it here on Amazon, but after reading the other reviews, I thought it sounded like it might be pretty good. I already had Mighty Joe Young, which is really good as well, and this sounded like it might be kinda' like that. I didn't expect it to be better. But after getting it and listening to it, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, I liked it better than M.J.Y., although the main theme to M.J.Y. is still more beautiful. But from top to bottom, I've enjoyed this CD more. It is one of the most listened to soundtracks for me recently (And when you have over 40 to choose from, that's saying something!) I was expecting maybe a lot of pounding jungle music, or intense action cues, based on the nature of the movie (Which I have not seen by the way-- but plan on doing so now), but Instinct instead is mostly all pretty, calm, flowing music, with a little jungle flair. I actually find it nice music to fall asleep to, almost a sort of lullaby. It has only one and a half action tracks, half of #5, and then #6. The rest is the pretty flowing type, with #2 being my favorite. The only real downside to this CD, is the length. As is common with almost all Varese Sarabande soundtracks, it is only a little more than a half-hour long. I think we should all write them and demand that they quit shortchanging us movie tunes lovers, and make them longer. But as with Rudy, another Varese Sarabande title, every bit they give you is worth it. Forget Batman, or Elfman's other titles, Instinct is his crowning work yet, by beauty standards. Now if you like relentless action cues, may I reccomend another Varese Sarabnde title, Dante's Peak. However, that is not what I'm reviewing here, and what I am, Instinct, is well worth the investment. I strongly reccomend it's purchase.

ELFMAN NEVER DISAPPOINTS, August 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Instinct: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
"Instinct" is typical Elfman: grand graceful choruses, deft percussion, weeping strings, and booming brass. Track 2 is the highlight of this CD, for its ethereally gentle choruses rising and falling, weaving in and out of string passages; it is also one of the longest tracks (around eight minutes long). Dramatic and sorrowful, "Instinct" contains more than is revealed in Amazon's little music samples; it is a sprawling epic, a truly mature and glorious work from the king of composing: Danny Elfman. Hail Elfman! For he can do it all, and do it well.

An excellent, breathtaking, and superb score!!!, July 9, 1999

I was hesitant at first to buy this soundtrack, but when I finally got it I was so pleased! I love all the tracks especialy track 2. It is very breathtaking. The chorus in the background and the mysterious flute all add to this wonderful score. It is a must buy for all who liked the film. It has a very "congo - forest" type feel and it really is great!!!!

But, there are a Bad point in this score, it's too short and The final moment did not have an grandiose note like ''Grand Final'' in 'Edward Scissorhands or 'Black Beauty', for example... Overall, it's a pretty good score, probably his Second best score (afer 'Sleepy Hollow') of the final Century...
