Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Anopson, or instinctive, nutrition involves using one's senses to choose which foods to eat at a particular time. The choice is made among raw foods only (including raw meats) since cooked foods are not "natural" to man. Anopsologists believe that when a human eats food in its original state, the food's taste changes from pleasant to unpleasant once the person's need is fulfilled. Schaeffer describes the approach and alleges that it enables the body to cast off disease-causing toxins and allows good health to prevail. This interesting if not entirely convincing work is worth a look for the open-minded, but is not a necessary purchase for most libraries. Johanna Ezell, Pennsylvania State Univ. Lib., Mont Alto Campus

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Instinctive Nutrition, July 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Instinctive Nutrition (Paperback)
You are what you eat. One of the oldest sayings will always ring very true, but its incomplete. What you _want_ to eat is every bit as important. No, feeling hungry and eating till your full isn't all there is to it, even if your a raw food vegan or whatever else. Your bodies nutritional requirements change by the minute. Although the perfect diet may exist, its never the same for the same person twice. Instinctive Nutrition fills the void left by so many contemporary diets and teaches us how to retune ourselves to an evolutionary "6th sense" that has largely been forgotten or bastardized by modern eating habits. This is a foundational book that you can use to have better success no matter what your diet choices may be.

An important note too is that Instinctive Nutrition is full of practical information that you can put to use instantly. Schaeffer is an excellent writer which makes the book and the information within a fun and compelling read. As others have said you need no other book about Instinctive Nutrition other than this one. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a better understanding of diet and health.

P.S. To whomever wrote all the side notes in my used copy: Thank You! It was like I was reading along with a study buddy, a funny one. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars must read, July 6, 2010
This review is from: Instinctive Nutrition (Paperback)
the only book on nutrition and raw food that you will ever need. explains the taste change and how to know what your exact needs are. culled from author's experience living in a french raw food community. his death was truly tragic. has not been reprinted and will likely stay out of print. none of the newer books even come close. get a copy while you can, it is truly a collector's item. give yourself a chance for life, and read this book. there is no recommendation i can give higher than this one.

that being said, i do have a complaint. however, it does not alter my gratitude and respect for the author. my complaint is his overuse of animal foods. take what you want and leave the rest.

may you live all the days of your life.
