Book Description

September 1996
Today, officers of pension funds and other large money managers are much more assertive about their shareholders' rights and have become increasingly active in dealing not only with top management, but also with corporate directors. The practices Brancato describes are based on her research for the US Competitive Policy Council, her experience as a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors' Blue Ribbon Commission, and her work at The Conference Board directing international working groups of corporate executives, global institutional investors and regulators. Best practices are described from her global research as well as her working groups on defining and communicating key measures of corporate performance. This volume describes in detail the best practices being used to measure and enhance firm value while observing the rights of shareholders and managing the risks of dealing with them for long-term benefit of both companies and investors.

This review is from: Institutional Investors and Corporate Governance: Best Practices for Increasing Corporate Value (Hardcover)
Viewing your stock as you would the products you sell, and trying to woo shareholders as you would potential customers offers the ultimate offers "win-win" situation, but only if the shareholders so selected continue as passive consumers. Brancato's strategy largely assumes shareholders add no value other than their strictly financial investments. That's like thinking the only value citizens add is paying taxes. Still, this is an important book.
