This review is from: The Instructions of Gampopa: A Precious Garland of the Supreme Path (Dream Flag Series) (Paperback)
This book has the full spectrum of Buddha's teachings from the very basic things to and not to do up to the highest Vajrayana teachings. Each section is spelled out into small groups of common sense instructions that are progressive and easy to follow. It is a book I have read more than once and will read again.

Great Root Text,

This review is from: The Instructions of Gampopa: A Precious Garland of the Supreme Path (Dream Flag Series) (Paperback)
This book is great for those that have some meditative experience and are at a point where they need some relevant pointing out instructions about what is to be abandoned, what is to be practiced, and so on. The root text is essentially lists of things: 10 things to be abandoned, 10 things not to be abandoned, 10 confusions of one thing for another, etc. They are quite pith, I think, and get to the heart of things. I personally prefer to just read and meditate or reflect on the root text mostly, though the commentary can clarify certain terminology type issues that might arise.
If one is not at the point where one feels a certain "inner" experience, then it might just be more lists to clutter up your mind. Or, maybe not... maybe it may still be useful. But, overall, I do think it's mostly suited to those who are trying to live a life in accordance with Dharma, and who have a bit of background with it. |
