The Complete Life of Evan Roberts 1878-1951 - Excellent !,
By Michaelangelo (Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Instrument of Revival (Paperback)
For nine months - between November 1904 and August 1905 - God anointed and used a twenty-six-year-old coal miner named Evan Roberts to channel a stunning revival movement of the Holy Spirit that has profoundly influenced the course of the Church both in Wales and the world. Few, however, know that Evan Roberts subsequently suffered a breakdown and withdrew to a solitary ministry of prayer before he later was once again called.Generations later, the questions persist: What motivated Evan Roberts? What was his family background like and how was he prepared for his mission? Did he ever marry? Did he go on to pastor, become a missonary, or a writer? After the revival, did he in fact backslide or lose his mind altogether? This book answers these and even more vital questions that reveal the anatomy of a genuine, earth-shaking revival - and the demands it places on its human conduits. Contents:

Welsh Revivalists 1904-05 and 1928-30,
This review is from: An Instrument of Revival (Paperback)
An Instrument of Revival - The Complete Life of Evan Roberts 1878-1951 is a very good book and the most comprehensive to date of which i have read about the great reviovalists who saw revival in 1904-05 and in 1928-30 in a mini-revival.The author has dug deep and quotes lots of book, letters, poems, periodicals, newspapers cuttings, magazines etc, Book has 25 chapters and 5 appendices, but this edition does not link appendices or sources and notes as they have been removed for ease of viewing - i think they call this a library edition book. There is a great biblographiocal index in appendix d. As mentioned, the authors goes into great detail about Evan Roberts life, ministry but does not overlook his character, flaws, mistakes etc., but brings out the true personality of a great revivalist and misunderstood intercessors. His up and downs and lows in old age, lowliness, poems, times of envy, jubilations, exstrangments, reconciliations, but still we do not know what happen to Evan during WWI and what he did. Some of the latter years late 1930s-1950s are a bit sparce, but you cannot add to which you do not know. the author makes up with it with Evan Roberts poems which reveals his inner self. Book even gives Evans address in many locations, including house number and street. Great book, written in a good enjoyable style. You will not be disappointed. I was not.

What a wonderful book!,
By Barny Harper (Pensacola, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Instrument of Revival (Paperback)
I understand that this book is now out of print - but if you are lucky enough to get your hands on this book - you're blessed. In my opinion it is the best book on the life of Evan Roberts. So many books only tell half the story, but the author of this book has done an incredible job of telling the REST of Evan Roberts' story. IT didn't end with the revival. It will also make your heart burn - may God raise up others in Wales such as Evan Roberts who will catalyse a move of God such as Wales saw at the turn of the last century! |
