5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner Violin
I bought this Violin for my granddaughter so she could begin taking Violin Lessons. Her teacher suggested looking online to find an inexpensive beginner instrument. She is using the violin in her lessons and her teacher says it's great. It stays in tune and it get's a pretty nice sound (when the teacher plays it, LOL). 3.0 out of 5 stars new to violin, but not new to music
I ordered this violin as a sort of Christmas present to myself, so I'd have something new to play, and I knew I was paying fairly low on an instrument most people expect to pay in the $500-$1000 range to start...The violin came with several scratches on the body, and on the bow around the frog as well. The horsehair on the bow is rough and several pieces were already...

3.0 out of 5 stars new to violin, but not new to music, December 9, 2011

I ordered this violin as a sort of Christmas present to myself, so I'd have something new to play, and I knew I was paying fairly low on an instrument most people expect to pay in the $500-$1000 range to start...The violin came with several scratches on the body, and on the bow around the frog as well. The horsehair on the bow is rough and several pieces were already broken, tangled, or nearly pulled out. Tightening the hair made this less apparent, but it's still visible. The pegs do not move easily, and the strings don't stay tuned...I don't necessarily think this is a fault of the violin, as I'd read that is a pretty common problem and bought peg drops (that I don't have yet) to combat the problem. Other than that, once the strings are nearly tuned, it sounds nice. Not great, and it's certainly not something I'd even want to play in an orchestra, but I think it'll be fine to learn on.

All in all, I think I got what I paid for, but not a penny more. Would not be as content with the quality of the violin if I had paid the list price of $300 instead of the discounted $69.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice entry level violin, December 30, 2011

We just received this violin two days ago but I am quite pleased so far. My son wanted to teach himself violin so that he can add some spice to his band. He has really enjoyed experimenting with the instrument. It came very well packed and included everything needed to get going, including a medium quality shoulder neck rest, decent bow, rosin, and the bridge already attached. For $70 you will not be disappointed. I didn't give it a 5 because he is having trouble keeping the strings in tune. Really it should be 4.5.

4.0 out of 5 stars A better than expected instrument for the price, December 11, 2011

I bought this violin because I have been wanting to start playing again. I played for 9 years but stopped after high school. It has been 12 years and while I still have my wonderful violin at my mom's house, I worried about shipping it here. (I live on an island in the middle of the Bering Sea right now) My violin at home has a rich beautiful sound, but is several thousand dollars, so that is to be expected.

This violin is great for the price, definitely not as forgiving as I would like, but I am rusty and it is an inexpensive violin. For the price, it is better quality than what I expected and I am pleased for now.

I am going to start teaching my daughter violin and have been practicing with this one for several days now. Overall I am very satisfied.

I'm totally new to violin.
I don't know much about it.

As I noticed, they didn't invest enough time to make the bow. When the hair was tighten, a part of the hair was still loosen.

And the rosin that goes with the violin, was terrible. It was so hard, I have to rosin the bow so long but still... The rosin's plastic tray wanna eat all the bow's hair when I tried to rosin the bow. I decided to thow the rosin away and used the super-sensitive rosin that I had bought.

Comparing the notes I play on the violin and the piano, they never match. Then I went to a local music store to get it tuned. I heard that the violin was out of tune. the saleman had to adjust the bridge and tuning pegs, of course.

I'm not so sure if a 3-star feedback is proper for this merchandise.

1.0 out of 5 stars i was sent a violas not a violin, January 24, 2012

ive bought this instrument without knowing any differences b/w the two (violin and violas). i was very please when i first received the package.i decided to attend a violin class since ive already bought a violin. i gave it to my teacher to tune it. what i found out is the size of the instrument that they sent me has a different in size of the one my teacher is holding. it's a bit bigger of a full size violin. it's strings also sounds differently from the one that my teacher has. when she try to tune it to get a right sounds, it won't let her tune all the way to the point where the violin should sounds. moreover, if you try to tune it, the strings feels like it would pop any minutes. just want to know if i have been sent a wrong instrument. or did you just give me wrong strings. if you only give me wrong strings then i would like you to resend the strings for me. and i'll have my teacher put and tune it for me.

I just purchased my first violin and I am 44 yrs old. I have such a yearning to learn and play music. It is never too late to make a dream come true. I opted for the free shipping and will report back as to the outcome of my "Christmas Gift" to myself. I am so excited, you would think I was 4 years old! :)
