Instrumental Arranging,
By Tom Brandt (Topeka KS (soon to be Moscow Idaho)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Instrumental Arranging (Paperback)
The book covers all standard orchestra and band instrumentsincluding 20 different percusion instruments. Each instrument's"review" is presented in a consistent, informative and understandable format.Particularly helpful are the charts describing the instrument's practical ranges for players with differing abilities ranging from elementary school through professional level and the register characteristics of each instrument. Also helpful are tips for notations that may be unfamiliar to the composer such as string harmonics and percussion. In addition, the book extensively covers various scoring techniques, special considerations for Jazz Ensemble and Marching Band and a chapter on the Human Voice. All in all, this is a very useful book. |
