I grew up and live in the Cincinnati, OH area, so I had a regular dose of David T. in my High school daze... David's other bands, CJSS and Chastain, played a local venue, Bogarts, on a regular basis. They were considered local, metal heroes! Every other weekend I was at Bogarts with my friends watching David T. and the boys(and Leather) play... Since I hadnt listened to this since 1988, because I own it on vinyl and my turn table is long shot, I wanted to see if this was still as good as I remembered it. It was!!! The opening Kurzweil melody played at full tilt will rattle your floors and windows! This flashed me back to the days of guitar metal at its finest! This album came out on the heels of Ynwie J. Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, et al.. David T. holds his own with his neo-gothic style of guitar playing/song writing and still holds up today as a very well crafted album! It has enough chops to make you salivate and beg for more..

David T. plays guitar, bass and keyboards while Ken Mary(not a native Cincinnatian) handles the percussion like a true master! Buy this CD, slip it in the player, kick back and take a short journey while your head is filled with David T.'s wicked fast fretboard work.. You wont be disappointed.

Hey David! How about a Chastain/CJSS reunion??? Call Russell, Mike, Les & Leather.. I'll be there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic collection of blistering instrumentals, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Instrumental Variations (Audio CD)
While David Chastain is not enjoying the popularity he once did when other guitar heros like Ynwie, Tony MacAlpine, Joe Satriani, were also getting airplay, it still seems that guitar players and any lovers of music can appreciate the technical ability demonstrated on this disk. The "neoclassical" thing may have been overdone but Chastain always seems accessible. Having seen him live, it is inspiring to watch. I think his instrumental disks are best since the vocalists in his various band incarnations have typically been weak-links.

This release by David T. Chastain is a true polished diamond, pure 80's instrumental metal genius. Few guys could play like him back then, this is no radio friendly music, this is true metal. Do your self a favor and buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud and Clear Burning Guitar Music, July 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Instrumental Variations (Audio CD)
I love this CD along with the Chastain CD of around the same time The 7th of Never. The production is crystal clear and heavy. The music is awesome of many different styles all within Chastain's own style and never wimping out. Unfortunately the follow up Voice of the Cult was very disappointing - avoid. P.S. This is an instrumental album.
