The ultimate 70's soundtrack,
By tgriffi "elproducto" (New Orleans, LA baby!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Instrumentals (Audio CD)
I have always been a fan of Mr. Hayes. He is a brillant composer, arranger, and producer. However, his vocals in my opinion are average. But that is alright because his production, band and background singers compensate for his vocals. This is one of the better compilations of his work with soundtracks for "blaxpoitation movies" in the 70's. When you listen to the tracks from this CD you will think that this could be used for any type of movie from that time period. Ranging from psychedelic guitars "Pursuit of the Pimpmobile" & "Hung up on my baby" to jazz "Cafe Regio's". If you are a fan of Isaac Hayes a composer, you can't lose with this CD.

Killer Compilation,
By
This review is from: Instrumentals (Audio CD)
A friend of mine who worked in a record shop urged me to try this CD one day. I hesitated, thinking that Hot Buttered Soul and the Shaft soundtrack was all the Ike I needed. Give it a go, its a killer, my friend told me. And he was right, it is a killer. This is an astoundingly good compilation. Tracks like "Hung Up On My Baby" and "ike's Mood" will become your all-time favourites when you hear them, "Pursuit of the Pimpmobile" is as good as its title (no mean feat) and the tracks you already know from "Shaft" sound even better as this CD flows. The phrase genius is tossed around far too lightly, and maybe it doesn't apply to Ike's entire career, but maybe the hand of genius can rest on someone's shoulder for a little while. How else do you explain "ike's mood"? How do you even begin to compose and structure such a tune ? If Brian Wilson had created it critics would be in raptures, but its doomed to be underrated. You need it in your life and you need this untouchable compilation too. Buy it, and like me you will still be playing it in six years to people who don't know it and just you watch their jaws hit the floor. An essential purchase.
