4.0 out of 5 stars A solid way to learn practical instrumentation circuitry, December 1, 1999
This review is from: Instrumentation and Test Gear Circuits Manual (Newnes Circuits Manual Series) (Paperback)
This book is a consists of circuits for many of the instruments found in a typical EE undergraduate lab. The circuitry shown for each type of instrument progresses from the basic through more sophisticated & complex versions, where the accuracy and precision increases. The simpler circuits demonstrate a basic way of performing a measurement and then the later circuits show how to improve the measurement process to reduce error, remove loading of the device under test, etc. If I were to teach a rudimentary design course to Juniors or early Seniors, this would be a good candidate text, because it exposes the student to issues like circuit sensitivity, and though it doesn't contain any problems for the student the instructor could easily marry design problems to the instruments presented. As a reference it's utility is in making the reader think through design issues (like those already mentioned) as well as others such as "Does your circuitry's accuracy vary depending on the range selected, because of the circuit topology?"
