I put in the batteries and was unable to detect any stud. So I took a meter to the batteries, figuring they must have expired, and found them to be fresh. So I tired again with no success. I then tried to detect a stud scrap that was being held in my hand - no success. This did not work. The seller gave me a full refund with no hassle and apologized for the failure of the unit. I threw it away and kept the batteries.

Got a GB brand stud seeker model GSS-500 and it does not work. Thought it was because i have plaster covered drywall but that's not the case. Batteries fine so avoid this one peeps.

This sensor works great on drywall but not at all on plaster. So if you're working mainly on older homes with plaster walls, this is not the tool for you.

I've had one of these for a few years, as well as a Zircon Studsensor Pro SL AC and a Black & Decker Stud Sensor SF100. Additionally, I've used other more expensive sensors. Surprisingly, I've found this simple GB sensor usually provides a clearer and more consistent indication of where the stud starts and stops, even in complex situations, whereas the other sensors often offer ambiguous results. Calibration is easier and faster with the GB, and the simple display is easy to see and interpret. Depending upon the situation, the other sensors occasionally provide more or even better information, but I find this one to be overall the most useful.
