When Lou's client, Connie Terwilliger, is threatened by her vicious husband, Lou and his group of good Samaritans who shelter battered women rescue Connie and put her in a safe house.
After Connie is murderously attacked, Lou finds himself pulled between his current commitments and a decade old list of cold cases involving murdered or missing women. One of those cases almost cost him his career as a police detective when his frustration with a suspect pushed him close to the edge.
When life couldn't seem to get any more complicated, Lou meets Joan Queen, a pretty ex-cop from Miami who makes him feel like living again.
In this fast paced drama, Lou Corso must outsmart a psychopath, redeem himself as a champion of battered and murdered women and find the courage to commit to love. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

A Thoroughly Entertaining, Contemporary Mystery,
By Lisa Polisar (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Insufficient Evidence (Lou Corso Mysteries) (Paperback)
Private Investigator Lou Corso is part superhero, part Greek hero, and part Cassanova. An ex-LAPD homicide detective, Corso is tormented by the theme of battered women in society, and haunted by his own past. His baggage includes a defecting girlfriend, the death of his beloved business partner, and a string of unsolved murders that have caused him enduring nightmares. A new client, Connie Terwilliger, becomes more than just a case to him - she's an opportunity to exercise his superhero skills and exorcise his demons at the same time. Through protecting her, though, Lou puts himself in line as her psycho husband's next victim. This fast-paced mystery has everything - suspense, intrigue, transformation, and even a little romance. Corso, above all, is compellingly human in every way. Insufficient Evidence is the best book I've read all year! I didn't want to put it down, and now that I've finished it, I'm dying for the next book in the series. Swart does a terrific job of weaving you into the tapestry of Corso's complex world, and he does it with slick dialogue, real-world characters and a great deal of atmosphere. And once you're in that world, you don't want to leave. Insufficient Evidence is a cleverly-written, classical PI novel with a modern twist. A resounding thumb's up!
