Editorial Reviews

Product Description
With a name like Whiplash, classic thrash metal is probably what one might expect, and that's exactly what this New Jersey band delivered. By the time of Sit Stand Kneel Prey, the band had broadened its sound just a bit, largely due to a change in vocal style. Whiplash seemingly has folded and reformed several times over the years, with the most recent reformation being the return to the original three-Tony lineup on Thrashback in 1998, but apparently the band is once again disbanded. Insult To Injury includes the song's 'Dementia Thirteen', 'Ticket To Mayhem' and 'Battle Scars'.Displeed. 2006. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great follow-up to Ticket to Mayhem , May 24, 2005
By Zander Haberstaft (Miami, Florida) - See all my reviews
So, its '89 and they're working on this album and they certainly have a few suprises. Insult to Injury is at least as good as Ticket to Mayhem, although it sounds vastly different from the latter.

Portaro's gruff vocals were replaced by Glenn Hansen, who has a distinctively higher singing voice. This gave in Portaro's words, "More time to pay attention to playing guitar."

The guitar riffs are catchier, the bass playing by Bono improved tremendously, and the songs are well written. Cangelosi comes back for drumming duty and the results are good.

It's really hard to describe what this sounds like exactly but a lot of the songs start out with a solo and then some type of break.

This album certainly did a lot to differentiate Whiplash's sound from other bands in the Genre at the time but it appears that didn't help them much case they broke up soon after this album came out.

They released two more albums that were like Sabbath meets Deep Purple and then the three originals Tony's (Bono, Portaro, Scaglione) got back together for "Thrashback" in '98. Tony Bono apparently died in '02, so no chance of a reunion. Man...

Definitely worth checking out; 4 3/4 stars!
